I haven’t seen a definitive answer to this one—most people load 4 Kraken missiles onto the ever-popular Primaris Lightning, but how about using just 2? The thing generally dies after one turn, and, with battle servitor control, two missiles plus lascannons are generally enough... why not save 35 points and end up with a one-turn-wonder, 185-point throw-away unit?

Because when two doesn't do the job, then you'll wish it was four!

It's probably one of those things you can math-hammer according to your meta. If your Lightning is indeed dying in a single turn, and you desperately need to take out one armoured target, what is it?

A WE Spartan bearing down on your gunline, or a Knight? Yeah, 35pts is going to feel like pocket change when those careen into your dudes with half their HP left.

A more fragile Phosphex Medusa? There's probably a greater appetite for risk there. It also depends on what else you have that can reach out and touch targets. Is your Lightning backing up a Leviathan in a turn one Drop Pod, or is it your entire backfield capability?

I always take the Phophex Bomb clusters also to drop on the squads bailing out of the destroyed land raider or spartan as I fly over them next turn

Yup pretty much! Go big or go home! If you're finding it a one turn wonder I would consider potentially trying something new with it?

Because if you take two and miss with one, you have one hit. Then you have to hope you don't mess up the pen roll, then you're fishing for a 6. The common thread here is reliability.

Yes you could take two and that MIGHT get the job done, but if you take for you WILL get the job done.
