Leviathan Dreadnought

The Leviathan Dreadnought in the pictures has some white areas that I missed (damn resin!) that I will need to go over again, and some splurges that I missed. Hopefully you can see that he is now black, haha. Still need to do the grav-flux bombard and the other stormcannon array, but I'll add those to the list. The idea behind him was this - the relic of the Horus Heresy (hence in black colors), with all the gold bits, now a tarnished bronze to reflect that appearance. Also got this..

Fairly happy with him, there are some very small areas that my painting expertise is incapable of properly fixing, though. Hopefully with time, that improves.

Well it's certainly have been a while. But I'm finding the drive to play my Dark Angels, and with them, an improvement on my painting. Pretty happy with the custom/dynamic poses as well, and happy with my beginner attempts at shading white.

Presenting - the Deathwing Strikemaster Osmadiel the Defender (with fluff), and the Deathwing Apothecary! Pictures of the Ancient for my next project are in the bottom spoiler.

Deathwing Strikemaster - Osmadiel the Defender:

Fluff:
Master Osmadiel of the Dark Angels have always been an enigmatic figure to say the least, even amongst the ranks of the First Legion. Records indicate that he was inducted during the start of the Horus Heresy, rising through the ancient Order to gather the attention of none other than Ser Luther, himself. On that day before his deployment alongside the remnants of the 112th expeditionary fleet, Luther presented him with the relic Calibanite Steel Blade. None could answer why out of all the thousand knights, Luther concerned himself with the fate of the one.

As the Heresy ended, and the events of the beginnings of the 41st millennium unfolded, Osmadiel became more and more distant, even from his own kin. His induction into the ranks of the Deathwing was an event that only a few Deathwing dreamt off – holding off an entire World Eaters battalion to guard a vault of forbidden First Legion relics, having nothing but the famed Calibanite steel blade of old in one hand, and a storm-shield of a fallen companion of his squad in his other. For that feat, he would forever be known with the honorary title of: the Defender. After the event, the Deathwing Knights directly petitioned Azrael for Osmadiel to join their ranks.

His time in the Deathwing did nothing to alter his mood - Osmadiel is a grim, foreboding figure, even amongst his brothers, a true embodiment of the late primarch. His appointment to a Strikemaster was to be expected and it is said that the jail cells of the Angelicasta, ominously, have never been quieter. Darkness surrounds his presence and his cells even more so, drawing the heat from the servos of the power armor Dark Angels wear. However, none could deny his efficiency in guarding the cells – to this day his title was in itself was a guarantee that none of the fallen escaped their ultimate fate.

Curiously, when the Strikemaster is not assigned to the cells, he is surrounded by scrolls of ancient Caliban – particularly one of swordsmanship and the techniques of the ancient Order. Other times he is seen escorted by a Ravenwing pilot of a Dark Talon, headed for directions unknown. Sometimes it is with his Black Lion strike force of a Champion, Ancient, Apothecary and a rather zealous initiate of the Deathwing. Every time the Dark Talon returns, more and more scrolls are added to his pile, and more and more fallen are thrown into the cells. Whatever his motives for his silence, and his hunger for Calibanite knowledge, one asks whether Osmadiel seeks the location of [REDACTED] for reasons known only to him.

Looking great, Osmadiel’s pose suits his epic fluff. Seems like there’s a bit of time travel shenanigans going on though, otherwise he would be over 10,000 years old

I intended to make him over 10,000 years old, but I can happily say, the time abnormalities of the rock fill that detail up quite nicely. Very nicely said, sir.

Got a whole bunch of other models painted up. Presenting Azrael (well Balthasar but an Azrael proxy).

Tried my best to come up with a custom base, but seems like I failed hardcore. I'd say the paintjob is decent though.

Still trying to get the hang of recess shading on a white paintbase, but very happy that I got that white shaded. With Lahmian Medium anything is possible!

Next project - Asmodai!

Fairly happy so far with him, he just needs some shading and he's ready to go! Crozius broke in transit, so I just went for an unsanctioned Mechanicus modification. I suppose I could use him as a Interrogator-Chaplain in general.

More admissions to my Dark Angel army..

Bladeguard Veterans - very happy with the conversions, how crisp the white is (now properly shaded), and how everything pops. One of the Bladeguard is missing a decal, and needs a nurgle decal for the flag. Got another 3 to go through, eventually.

The pet psychopath - Asmodai! Nothing spectacular, but passable.

Upcoming projects (in no specific order):

Primed and Ready:
1. 2 Deathwing Champions - one primed and ready to go, the other one is in the process of taking an isopropyl bath.
2. Interrogator-Chaplain in Terminator Armor - waiting on some Dark Vengeance Seraphicus parts to complete him.
3. Dark Vengeance Command Squad - picked that squad up specifically so I can run them as a fancy command squad.
4. 3 Bladeguard Veterans (also converted)

Taking a bath:

4. 9 Deathwing Knights - going to be taking an isopropyl bath, after the Champion.
5. Indomitus Captain - currently taking an isopropyl bath alongside the Champion.
6. Primaris Chaplain on bike - going to be taking an isopropyl bath after the Champion.
7. Two misc Dark Vengeance terminators for my second command squad.

Question: Regarding the IC in Terminator armor, his right shoulderpad would have the Crux Terminatus. What should his left shoulderpad have? I got a Angel shoulderpad from the Dark Angels, and regular Deathwing ones? If I give him the deathwing one, should the plate be black, or should the plate be white in contrast to his black power armor?

No definitive answer there. The ‘standard’ chaplain in termie armour model has been shown in official pictures as having the regular green with white sword and the termie librarian has the green with white sword on the kneepad (as the official model has the librarian book symbol where the chapter badge would go) but I would argue it makes sense for them to also wear the deathwing badge as they are attached to that company and the terminator armour itself is in the colours of their office. End of the day it’s just how GW have painted the studio models and there’s no hard fluff dictating either way (I went with Deathwing pads myself)

You do you basically. Nice work on the bladeguard, just finished mine up and waiting to take photos :)

Presenting my finest work yet - the Interrogator Chaplain Seraphicus in Terminator Armor! Very very stoked how he looks... if the back legs looks like it has a bit of grey on it (leadbelcher), it's actually the light reflecting on the 'ardcoat I gave him. Butchering a limited edition chaplain for this? Absolutely worth it.

Presenting my Master in Gravis Armor! Not my best work, but enough of an improvement over the predecessor a few months ago. Probably the value is in the conversion..

So, I found a second wind to revisit my DA, and I have to say, I'm having a blast painting up the proud sons of the Lion! The DA challenge really inspired me to finish my DA army, so hopefully this thread will be more active than what it was. Here are some submissions!

Osmadiel the Defender, reimagined. The paint is a tad thick sadly on his shield, as I wasn't sure what color I wanted it to be, and the superglue couldn't be scrapped off from the back in the modelling process. Still arguably better than my previous iteration.

Deathwing Leviathan Dreadnought - pretty proud of him, and my attempts at shading white. Still got some ways to go, but I'm planning on picking a second one up, so practice for that time I suppose. Still much better than my first black incarnation earlier in this thread.

Primaris Osmadiel the Defender - the primaris version of the Terminator Chapter Master. One of my best paintjobs yet. He's going to get an accompaniment by another three bladeguard veterans and a contemptor that are next in the painting queue (well when the Contemptor melta arm/2 x plasma arm/CML arrives).

Writing up the fluff for him for the challenge as well. Thanks for looking at this thread :smile.:
