Kabal of the Poison Void - WH+ Vampire Archon conversion

Very nice! I can see it's a very complicated model with bits all over the place, but that's how it goes for DE somewhat. Still looking forward to getting round to my Talos, though a while off yet (and my Coven forces are basically just them currently). What are your thoughts on their wargear and on the table top?

 

I have some of the older plastic Warriors... I think they'll stay in the box :P

Talos are best when they're as cheap as possible IMO, keeping the macro scalpels but taking Haywire blasters are the way to go as Dark Eldar don't have many ways to get Mortal wounds out plus Haywire is ace.

 

The older metal warriors are an acquired taste

I want to try and get one of the previous Archon models, he's pretty cool but if not I can bash one together easily enough maybe see what GS can do to help him stand out some more. I agree on the Talos, from my musings it seems that the gun is the only real choice for the most part. Speaking of, you must be looking at Coven additions soon to go with your Talos?

My models got featured on Hobby Roundup yesterday too which was so cool to see, and on my Birthday no less! :blush:

IMO the older Archon models are much better than the current one (the current one is so weird, why does he need his arms crossed or stand on his tip toes?)

 

I've got another talos and a cronos at my Dad's but as he's on the vulnerable list atm I can't get to my stuff. Once I do I'll need to strip and start again, I'll need a haemonculus too I think

Going through all of the images you posted was an absolute blast. I don't paint my minis, but seeing your True Kin fully painted made me wish I did.

Now to my Problem, I was so locked in on doing the normal DE scheme till I saw this colour scheme.... What the hell have you done  ...

I'm Massively in love with that Sons of Horus Green !! and you have shown how well it works with red ,white and black...

oh "Kabal of the Poisoned Sea" sounds pretty damn fine for an army name   your right, ocean doesn't quite fit DE theme...more space marine.

Now that I see what you have done with the flight bases, I do like them. Why did you do them this way? To easier magnetize and transport the models? I think this may be the answer to my transport problem. May I ask how exactly did you do the flightbases? Are they firm enough?

Thanks Fish! I do recommend looking at some of the older sculpts from both 40k and WHFB on ebay and see what still holds up  and can be bought for relatively cheap

Thank you Mirthil! Sons of Horus green is magic, it's so easy to apply and get an even coat over Mechanicus standard grey. The paint scheme is super easy to do and to look great. If you dopaint them SoH green or any other colour for that matter I'd love to see them!

Thank you very much Anon, I don't think they're the best looking DE army, but it's a lovely complement all the same 

The flight bases are the clear stems, cut the bottom nub cut off and super glued to a normal base, I've yet to have one break off or even be remotely wobbly. I don't like clear bases as I imagine most of my flying units are very close to the ground skimmers (this is personal preference of course)

Thank you Wulf, the Purple hue is just a thinned wash of Druchii violet applied twice. I like my schemes to be as simple of possible so I can get a few models out quickly 

 

 

Thank you all so much for the lovely comments, there's no new updates unfortunately as I got side tracked by my Death Guard and now with the Indomintus box I've been side tracked by my marines again. This isn't the last of my DE, I've still got plenty to do!

With the upcoming codex, Spikey space elves have shot to the top of my to-do list. Seeing the rules and the thought put into the codex has resparked my mojo for this project.

First up is a Raider, then 10 Wyches, 5 more Hellions, another Raider and 5 more Incubi. Hopefully maybe I'll have it all done in the next couple of weeks, as the scheme is quick and easy I don't need to spend a huge amount of time on these models to get the effect that I want. Much like the Death Guard book, there's way more options I'd like to take now and the 25 Hellions I own don't sound so daft all of a sudden

Dang it ...i used all my likes on your earlier stuff as i went back through from the start again... 

I love how the army has come along and the colours are still rockin it  ... the paint jobs are awesome and well done...BUT(please take this constructively as i say it with the best intentions to making your force super awesome),The freehand symbols could do with some extra attention , as i scrolled across the pics they popped out at me but not in a good way ...  I think with a half hour of extra work trying to neaten them up and maybe add some highlights then they will look even better....

it's just my 2 cents and you can totally ignore it but it seems like you put great effort into the whole force and i think a tiny bit more will make em Super

I do plan on going back to the freehand later on down the line, they're not perfect and quite wobbly but they're a decent estimate on what they'll be. It'll be good to get some more practice as I go, outside of this project I haven't done much freehand

@ TrawlingCleaner- thanks, I’m glad you saw it for what it was ! I reckon after a bit o practice you’ll be doing the best freehand ever, plus you’ll need to sharpen those skills anyway if your going to do those cool eyes on the front of your raiders etc !.

10 Wyches almost done, I need to do the eyes, tidy the faces a tad and tidy the base rims but they're passable as is but I'll finish them up before starting the next thing. Next up is another Raider!

The Wyches are members of the (yet to be named Wych cult) that are hired by the Kabal of the Poisoned Void (my Kabal). In my head the army functions exactly as the Realspace Raider's detachment does, the Archon is the Warlord that hire/in charge of the Cult and the Coven. The Coven aren't hired, just came to an agreement that they can keep the large majority of the captives that they take

 

 

 

 

Many of the Wyches have purple hair, hoping to catch the attention of the Succubus who also has purple/lilac hair

I've had a very productive week this week. I started the week off by finishing another Raider, 5 Scourge and painting 5 Mandrakes. I painted these with Contrast on the skin and fireballs, it only took 4 hours to do which is pretty rad. I wish they weren't finecast though! 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Then over 2 days I got another 10 Scourge done, leaving me with 15 or 3 squads of 5. I have a Shredder squad, a Blaster squad and a Haywire squad. Plenty of options!

 

 

 

 

 

Today I got 5 more Scourge added, bringing me up to 15, I've got another 10 on sprue to add too. I love the models and I love they got a lot of love in the new book 

 

 

 

 

Incubi up next if I can get out and prime them

Wow ...Awesome additions here   I love scourges so my approval rating is at 11 ! 

 

side note, my mate and i saw the last of a game at our *FLGS yesterday and it was Deldar Vs DeathGuard and the Deldar won a good victory we saw he used urien, drazhar  covens and Cabals (both players were competent veterans so it was a good sign for the new book)

 

*additional info - we're in Australia and covid is under control so game shops are running as normal
