Hey guys, just wondering what everyone's take on the wording of Gorefather combo'ed with Flames of Spite is.

Gorefather is "unmodified wound roll of 6 does 3 mortal wounds and the attack sequence ends."

Flames of Spite "If the wound roll for a melee weapon attack made by your warlord is 6+, it inflicts 1 mortal wound on the target in addition to any other damage."

So would a wound roll of 6 with Gorefather + Flames then result in 4 mortal wounds? Or does the "attack sequence ends" part of the rule negate the effects of Flames of Spite?

Currently I think this combo on an exalted champ is the best Character killer available to the World Eaters (outside of a Red Butchers Termi Lord with Gorefather and Disciple of Khorne).

I'm going to say yes, it works. From the Rulebook FAQ:

Q: Some attacks deal mortal wounds in addition to their normal damage. When are these mortal wounds allocated?

A: Any mortal wounds inflicted by an attack in addition to normal damage should be allocated after that attack has been resolved (note that this may prevent fast dice rolling when resolving attacks with this ability).

This means that the Flames of Spite mortal wound is applied once the attack is resolved. As soon as you roll a 6 to wound, you inflict three mortal wounds and the attack sequence ends - this resolves the attack.

Don't worry about the "attack sequence ends" wording; the exact same wording is used when a model makes a successful saving throw:

If the result [of the saving throw] is equal to, or greater than, the Save characteristic of the model the wound was allocated to, then...the attack sequence ends.

And, according to the Rulebook FAQ, passing a save does not prevent an "additional mortal wound" effect from taking place:

Q: If a weapon such as a rail rifle has an ability that can inflict a mortal wound on the target in addition to the normal damage, but the ‘normal damage’ is subsequently saved, does the target still suffer the mortal wound?

A: Yes. Note that if the ‘normal damage’ was not saved, the wound would be allocated on the target unit first (and any resulting damage inflicted) before the mortal wound was inflicted.

If the "attack sequence ends" because of a passed save, but a mortal wound effect still takes place, then there's no reason to believe that Gorefather's effect prevents an additional mortal wound as well.
