Leadership 10 Guard

Hello All,

Is this legal/useful?

Lord Commissar as warlord with Inspiring Leader from page 186 of the main rule book. Does a warlord trait count as an ability? If yes, he would then benefit from the +1 LD as well, as per page 179 of the main rules. This would make him LD 10 and all units within 6" of him could then use his improved leadership. Suddenly, you've got LD 10 conscripts/heavy weapon teams. Thoughts on all this?

Cheers

Don't have the codex right now, but...HWT are 3-model units. If they lose two they need max ld 8 to not fail morale. Plus your LC has to stay in your backlines.

Conscripts...until they get reworked giving them a ld-buff still makes them horribly underpowered compared to regular infantry. :-/

I just don't really see an improved ld-bubble as all that useful. Especially when it takes a WL-trait.

Agreed, it feels a bit of a waste of a trait for a babysitting unit especially when the units you're escorting aren't amazing. Conscripts as noted are poor and HWTs usually get blasted off the board before morale is an issue. He'd be better with your front lines, ensuring they hold I think :)

Guard leadership is a funny thing in reality on the ground in a game. I remain to be convinced buffs are worth points.

If actually shot by something anti-infantry - squad gets pretty much nuked, in which case at 40pts just shrug and let em run.

You can normally save 3 units before rolling a dice (pyschic immune+d3 morale strat+autopass strat).

After that you can save HWT/SWT normally too even if a few more run.

(assumes Leadership 7)

10 casualties.... er dead

9 casualties... auto killled by morale

8 casualties... auto killed by morale

7 casualties... squad wiped on 3+

6 casualties... squad wiped on 5+ (save on D3 strat)

5 casualties... squad not killed by morale (roll of 6 leaves 1 model)

4 casualties... leaves 3 models on D6 roll of 6

3 casualties.. leaves  5 models on D6 roll of 6

2 casualties... leaves 7 models on D6 roll of 6

1 casualty.. cannot fail

After being hit once - the harder they were hit first time the less likely another morale needed..... as not enough models left.

Note you can use this in your favour too as sometimes pulling models is GREAT - e.g. if someone tried to wrap and trap someone preventing fallback

Leadership bonuses and bubbles are weird

They FAQ how the buff works with bubbles I believe generally speaking that bonuses don't double with bubbles otherwise Mordians could also get up to 11 or 12 I believe with banner plus RD

Can't remember if it's general FAQ or IG specific

Ld10 in general from LC is handy

I've always considered high leadership to be a secondary benefit to using lord commissars. I only bring them to supplement the melee ability to a squad of bullgryns. Lord Commissars have a WS and BS of 2+. If you give one the blade of Conquest and a second a powerfist, you will surprise a space marine player. Guard don't have that bad of bvb a problem with morale. We have the auto pass strat, but we also have fight to the death. That's a fun little strat that I keep in my back pocket.
