The Iron Revenants will be loyalist, but I propose we be the ones to fire the first shot for this war, we are known for our mistrust and I believe that as the tensions rise Araphel would find it well within his rights to start shooting first to 'protect' his legion. On this note I am setting up my google doc to explain them some more as well.

Just to be sure, the Council of Nikaea didn't happen in this universe did it?. Because I'm pretty sure Nikaea happened after Ullanor, and since the Emperor's disappeared before Ullanor the Librarius will not be proscribed. Also, can people please post the names of their Primarchs and some details? I'm going to start writing the fluff soon, and I'd like to include some of them.

Sure thing,

Primarch: The Ash-Blooded

.

Discription: Medium Height for a primarch, wears Tartaros pattern Terminator armor. He only removes his helmet when around trusted allies. Personality wise, He is Lanconic, and deeply mistrustful of those who he disapproves of (Psykers in particular)

Edited by Chaplian Belphoron

The Riven Primarch- Morrigar

Description- Medium height/build relative to other Primarchs, with pale skin and no hair. Has a multitude of crimson burn scars criss-crossing his body and face, Wears a modified suit of Terminator armor, pattern unknown, wields a spear and Skiirad bio-chem flamer.

Temperment- Melancholic. Mirrors his legion, taciturn and bitter towards most. His psychic powers are tightly leashed, but occasional auras flicker around him when he is aggravated.

Red Eyes Primarch - Theoderaf

Description - medium height, around 30s-early 40s, red eyes (red isises rather than Vulkan's red eyes), long black hair like the Emperor, very short black beard, white.

Wears Mark 4 Artificer Armour similar to Rogal Dorn's, wields a double-headed axe and plasma pistol.

Temperment - very principled, fanatic believer of the Imperial Faith, savage when in combat.

Legion - Iron Revenants, First Legion.

Primarch - Araphel "The Titan"

Description -  Araphel’s moniker of ‘The Titan’ is not without warrant. Even for a primarch, Araphel is tall. He is lithe with a wiry build which with his height comes off as physically imposing. The Primarch’s armour is a tailor made form of artificer power armour, and at one point had been painted by the tech marines in a stunning white scheme to stand out from the rest of the legion. Since, the armour has become scratched, dirtied, dull and worn with the primarch not being one to care much for its’ aesthetics, only ensuring that it never rusts or reduces in effectiveness. The Primarch himself has dirty brown hair that reaches to just above his eyes, with hard cheekbones and a strong jawline. His eyes are a stunning blue in colour, overall in comparison to other Primarch’s his face has a rather ‘human’ look to it. The Primarch is often silent, not one to enjoy the typical brotherly fraternity between Primarch's, he thinks carefully about his words and what their effect could truly mean.

Personality - Practicality, mistrust and cynicism. Despite this Araphel will never break an oath, having a deep hatred for oath breakers and traitors. He tries to be prepared for every eventuality, even if this has caused a rift between himself and his brothers. Araphel believes in what the Imperium means, believing that uniting all of humanity is a noble goal, even if he believes that the success of it might not be likely. He swore oaths to the Emperor, and to uphold the Imperial truth, and these will never be broken. Within a warzone the primarch's personality is cold and effective, thinking about the best approach to the war at hand.

Legion: Godslayers

Primarch: Koschei Kharkovic, the "Dreamer."

Koschei Kharkovic lowres

Description: Visually one of the youngest looking Primarchs, Koschei Kharkovic has medium length, Burgundy red hair, and well groomed mutton chops.
By the time of the image above, the strain of the Crusade has started to show in his amethyst colored eyes, which appear tired.
He wears a modified mk.4 suit of artificer armor, designed to be reminiscent of the armors common to his home world of Zbruch. It was gifted to him by his father, The Emperor.

Personality: Koschei is idealistic and compassionate. He is a man very much guided by the code he lives by. He is quiet, and reserved, though when given the chance to speak his mind, often speaks passionately. Always listening to those around him, he often stands out of the limelight, preferring to let his more confident brothers take the attention. He has a strong sense of justice and abhors acts that he views as dishonorable. He holds a deep affection for a select few of his kin, including Alexandros, and generally avoids interacting with those he finds brutal, like Theoderaf, or uncompromising, like Araphel .

Legion: The Alabaster Order

Primarch: Gustave Dunant

Description: Gustave Dunant is slightly taller than average for a Primarch, and of medium build. He has facial features similar to the Emperor, except perhaps more aged, as Gustave appears to be in his early fifties. He has short cropped, black hair, with streaks of grey running backwards from either temple, and a smooth shaven face. His eyes are green. He is nearly always seen wearing his M.O.D. (Medical Overlay Display) over his left eye. He has also been known to wear a pair of glasses from time to time, though it is highly unlikely that he has any actual need for them, and therefore it can be assumed that he wears them for a purely sentimental reason.

In regards to armor, Gustave wears a suit of heavily modified Artificer Armor equipped with a highly refined servo harness, it's four sturdy, but delicate servo arms assisting him not only in his lab, but on the battlefield as well. He is also equipped with a highly complex Narthecium, with a built in Reductor.

Personality: More than anything, Gustave is a deeply compassionate individual, who passionately wishes to end the suffering of Mankind. He is also highly analytical, and prone to losing himself in his musings. He has a brilliant mind in regards to biology, and medicine, though he finds it difficult to explain the finer theories of his discipline to those with less knowledge on the subject, and can become rather frustrated rather quickly if he can't make his point understood. He seems to completely lack the ability to pick up on social cues, and so can come off as rude, or superior.

In regards to his siblings, it could be said that Gustave is almost blatantly dismissive of many of his siblings, and only passingly amicable towards those that either share similar ideals, such as Koschei, or express interest in his work.

Legion: Eagle Guard

Primarch: Romulus Constantine

Description: Romulus is taller than average for a primarch, with deep red hair trimmed short and is smooth shaven. He has a medium build with little body hair. Although he reached full growth decades ago, Romulus still retains a youthful look, almost looking like a young man. His eyes are a deep purple. In battle, he favors no particular armor, usually wearing Artificer armor, or Tartaros war-plate.

Personality: Romulus's most defining trait is his optimism. He is a firm believer in the Imperium and is committed to the Emperor's vision of a new golden age for humanity. Romulus wages war for the Emperor not because it's the best way to pile up corpses, but for the betterment of human civilization. He places great value on the Iterators, Remembrancers, and architects of the Imperium. However, he does have a darker, more violent and ruthless side to him, which has earned him the nickname "Fury" amongst his brothers.

When Romulus was found and rejoined the Imperium, he extended the hand of friendship to all of his brothers without favor, and although many rebuffed him, he tries to remain on at least cordial terms with all his brothers.

You know, the first thing that should happen should be Malcador calling for a council at Terra to get control of the situation before all hell breaks loose. Once everybody playing gets organized, everybody should state their initial reactions to the Emperor's disappearance. Romulus's reaction will at first be stunned disbelief, followed by trepidation at what this could mean, followed by contemplation of the possibilities this might represent.

Moving this over here to a more general thread. I have a couple of questions. One, is this a generic, temporary council, or are you suggesting Mal convenes the Council of Terra? Two, is Mal going to order the Primarchs and the other high-ranking commanders to disengage from their campaigns?

Otherwise, I do agree that Mal will become the prime agent to re-establishing Imperial order, though certain Primarchs will undoubtedly assist.

The Ash-Blooded upon the disappearance of the Emperor would begin disassociating from the Imperium at large. The main reason for joining the crusade was to serve his father. With The Emperor absent, his loyalties lie with his brothers, his sons, his values, and the Imperium in that order. Edited by Chaplian Belphoron

Malcador would probably immediately start trying to stabilise the Imperium with those on hand, ordering the Primarchs what to do until the situation is calm enough for a meeting. He'd probably order the more warlike primarchs to stay away and keep order whilst asking the Primarchs he could trust and need to come to Terra as soon as possible.

I've got a moment to breath, so I'm going to do some theorizing now that we have a better idea of the line-up.

I think Talos has the right of the opening move. Malcador, as the consummate bureaucrat, is going to immediately to step in to stabilize things. First order of business is to prevent the central heart of the Imperium from collapsing. This includes the Astronomican. Through means unknown, Malcador is able to restart it after it shuts down for one Terran hour. After that, next priority is to staunch the bleeding. Low priority warzones are abandoned, while resources are shifted to higher priority zones. The Ullanor Ork Empire is, for the time being, placed under quarantine as best as the Imperium can at this time. Right before the disappearance, several legions were in the process of moving to engage the Ullanor Orks. For better or for worse, these Primarchs and Legions now are stuck as the first line. A couple of them might have already been deployed and now have to deal with the extreme frustration of having to give up early victories as the overall campaign strategy shifts from purgation to containment.

If Alexandros isn't one of them, he will be working overtime as the foremost diplomat Primarch in assisting Malcador in putting down political fires. After the worst threats are neutralized or stabilized, Malcador issues a general call for the War Council to convene. Again, it's the closest thing to a governing body, paired with Malcador's ad hoc bureaucracy. The Primarchs are given higher priority to be present since they and Malcador represent the most natural heirs to the Emperor's authority. At this Terran conclave, arguments flare as they try to form the path forward. If we are going to have an equivalent to the Warmaster, this would be when he is chosen. Emphasis on the if. While several plans are offered, ultimately, the only one anyone can really agree on is to continue business as usual with perhaps a few changes.

maybe something more drastic happens, but that will happen only if the crew comes up with something as a crew)

Regardless of what happens at the conclave, several Primarchs are going to be dissatisfied with the results, whether out of ideological, pragmatic, or selfish reasons. It's at this moment that Chaos will attempt to begin seducing the Primarchs. It's going to be a slower process than what we see in canon, but I still estimate that only 10-15 years will pass before the first Heretic appears publically. Though it's more than possible for a couple of Primarchs to be standing at various stages of corruption. Meanwhile, the Separatist Primarchs will slowly grow less confident in the Imperium's ability to survive in its current form. Alternatively, in a more cynical light, the more power hungry Primarchs will begin to see growing opportunities to seize their own power. As suggested, the First Legion will strike the opening blow. This first Chaos incursion will probably be mostly a failure in a short-term sense. It'll last a few years, but the legion and Primarch will be sent crashing into the Warp, either at the Maelstrom or at the Eye of Terror. Alexandros and the other strong Loyalists will attempt to spin this as a major victory.

In reality, the fact that a Primarch/Legion has fallen so hard shakes the Imperium to the core. The loss of such a potent symbol of a military might and Imperial royalty/nobility undermines the foundation. What strikes next won't be as simple as a single Chaos incursion. However, it won't be an all-out nightmare scenario. Yet. Could be a combo of a double Chaos incursion or a combination of something else. This should be the first time someone, perhaps a Lord Admiral or someone of equal rank, attempts to establish their own empire. The latter represents a different danger than a Chaos incursion/Xeno invasion. It shows that even ranking members of the War Council are steadily losing faith in the Imperium, but can do so without falling all the way to Chaos. Additionally, another weakness is revealed when the Imperium struggles to end it.

I suggest no Separatist Primarch make their move yet, since the Imperium doesn't look too weak at this second stage. The third stage? It's either at this stage or at the fourth stage that the nightmare scenario occurs. The nightmare scenario should have a combination of all three threats of Chaos, rebellion, and Xeno strike. This would be the ideal time when the Separatists flee from the Imperium and form their own separate domains. This should be when Chaos provides the greatest unity and momentum, even if it's only three Chaos powers acting in concert. Worst of all, this is when the Mechanicum, or Kelbor Hal's faction, formally separate from the Imperium. The double eagle dies at this stage. The Loyalist Mechanicum will eventually reform into the weaker Mechanicus as in canon. Dark Mechanicum is guaranteed (Hal will fall), though there might also be room for a new, independent Mechanicum, separate from all others. The Imperium is ultimately able to survive, but at the cost of significant territory. The Separatists are independent.

If the third stage is the peak, then the fourth and possibly fifth stages will represent additional yet smaller and smaller threats. Perhaps the last Chaos god gets its legion, maybe this is when Malal secures his legion. I'm expecting the War of the Eightfold Path to least several decades, but no more than 50 years, given how there will be a breaks between the conflicts. But those conflicts need to be close enough to each other to be linked in the minds of the people. Or at least close enough for a historian to be willing to link them.

(Alexandros might be willing to back a Warmaster candidate, but will never submit his own name as a candidate)

As a follow-up to yesterday's post, the two early events we should figure out is which legions will be stuck fighting at Ullanor during the initial stages, and Primarch interactions at the Terran Conclave.

As I said, a Warmaster is optional, but if it happened, it would be at the Terran Conclave. Several reactions occurred on Discord at the suggestion.

  • Alexandros is neutral about the concept and won't put his name forward.
  • Koschei is hostile to the concept
  • Morrigar is hostile to the concept
  • Gustave doesn't care at all and would not recognize the Warmaster's authority
  • Lukas recommends Alexandros for the position
  • 'Alor supports a Warmaster, any, so long as it prevents Malcador from consolidating further power in his own hands

The Iron Revenants can be present at Ullanor if nobody else steps up, though we'd usually keep away from the bulk of other legions.

I OOC believe in a Warmaster being the appropriate reaction, IC If it isn't Araphel he would obviously be unhappy however he would grin and bare it. Araphel has served the Imperium well but his mistrust and paranoia means he isn't as charismatic as Horus was persay, unless that's the type of thing Malcador would want. The Primarch would see the need for a Warmaster and agree to the vote.

Either way, it's an aye from me and Araphel for the Warmaster option.
