Hi all

I play kill team and want to make a necron roster. I bought a start collecting kit as it contains warriors, immortals and a commander in one box (that was on sale even!).

I might buy a box of praetorians/lychguard someday as I do quite like the models, but for now in friendly games this will do.

I would quite like a few flayed ones on the roster though and this is where I have a problem though. I friggin hate the flayed-ones models. They look terrible. And I would like to stretch my start collecting box as far as it will go :)

Now I know there are some 'convert warriors into flayed ones' tutorials out there and I might end up going that way if needed. However, I really like scarab bases as a model and am kind of annoyed that I can't use them in kill-team. I'd like to counts-as them for flayed ones (again, friendly games) but I don't want to do any 'modelling for advantage' shennanigans. And there is the problem because they are way lower to the ground than flayed-ones.

Can anybody give me some inspiration on how to 'bulk up' a scarab base so that it is closer to the dimensions of a flayed-one while maintaining the general look-and-feel of a scarab base? I'd appreciate it :)

I would cut the Scarabs from their little stands and replace those with wire. I'd probably split them into 2 groups of 6 rather than 3 groups of 4 (but that's just me). I'd shape the swarm into an approximation of a Flayed One's silhouette by adjusting the length of the wire, and bending them into shape.

Something like this, (side view for spacing, front view for heights)

I was in the same boat when considering a Necron KT which I never got around to (it's on the docket once I finish a few actual armies) but I plan to simply make my own flayed ones from Warriors.  If you like the scarabs you could add them to your flayed one bases to further differentiate them from warriors.  Counting them as flayed ones is something I hadn't considered but have you made a bunch of lists yet?  How many flayed ones/warriors are you planning to use?  You may end up needing another box of infantry anyway so converting flayed ones from warriors may be your best bed in the end.

The start collecting box gives me 5 immortals, 2 lords, 3 scarab bases and 12 warriors. I feel like that will be enough that I won't need to buy an extra box of warriors. Probably I can convert a few of the warriors into flayed ones, I cant imagine I'll ever need 12 of them in kill team. The only extra purchase I would consider is a box of lych guard to make them into 5 different variantions of praetorians and lych guard for roster purposes.

I hadn't really given it much thought yet but I think my roster will be something like

1 lord,

5 immortals (maybe 4 and 1 death mark, dunno yet),

2 lychguard with shield (best choice imho),

1 each of 3 other lych/praetor options for flavor

2 or 3 flayed ones for points fixing and objective holding

fill with warriors.

That should give options for killteam from 100-200 pts including commander and campaign play I feel like.

So probably I have enough in the box if I go the warrior conversion route for my flayed ones. Still more interested in doing something with scarab bases for them though, just like those models alot :) We will see how it ends up.
