Bit of an odd question here, is there any established lore for rogue canoptek constructs? Both in the sense of either not being controlled or being controlled by a non necron.

In addition, could an uncontrolled tomb world biome potentially have developed non-standard patterns or creatures. I haven’t really kept up with necron lore since like 4th so I’m curious if these ideas had been explored.

Thanks you filthy robots! ;)

target acquired. Activating anti-fur protocols. :P

Glad you’ve decided to join us down in the Tombs, brother!

While I’m not aware of any lore regarding rogue Canoptek Constructs specifically, I don’t think it would be out of the question. They tend to operate on pretty simple subroutines, or under specific commands from their crypteks and the Tomb World Master Program (the god-level AI that administers a world unless and until its regent awakens.

Crypteks go mad for any number of reasons, so you could have constructs operating under a rogue Cryptek.

There is also, if you feel like taking a bit of a deeper dive, the Empire of the Severed. You can go look for more specific detail online, but the gist is something like this: rad-storms ravage the tomb world of Sarkon, destroying Thee memories of every necron there entombed. The master program takes over, in its arrogance and overconfidence failing to realize it too is damaged. It then proceeds to begin attacking other tombs to wipe their memories and take control of their legions, as it did on its planet. Hijinks of the lethal kind ensue.

Hope that helps!

(And for C’tans’ sake, don’t spill any of your mjod on the way out. It takes forever to clean up. ;) )

Interesting, I like the idea of the world master program. Been playing a lot of Horizon Zero Dawn and though it could be a cool way to do some bucket list stuff like exodites.

World master program gets hacked by an infinity circuit or vice versa, could be fun.

I agree with Lenoch.  If you want a non-standard construct, I think rogue Cryptek is the way to go.  Lords despise Crypteks because scientific pursuits are beneath anyone of noble standing, and only tolerate them because they need them.  So it wouldn't be too crazy to have a high ranking Cryptek do something like sabotage the Lords while they hibernate and do their own thing now.

Alternatively, you could have a particularly talented Cryptek with their own forces.  Illuminor Szeras is a Cryptek who doesn't answer to anyone, and is constantly trying to improve Necron technology, so you could use him (or make up an apprentice of his who works primarily with Canoptek constructs).

Cool, so are crypteks operating mostly in current times then with experiments or have they been around “forever”? Like is this behavior new or is it something like a cryptek could have experimented and essentially “seeded” a planet with necron derivative “life” then gone dormant and/or disappeared? There have been cryptek conclaves doing insane stuff since the War in Heaven. The Silent King purged one conclave for playing all sides of the second war of succession (they were playing at arms dealing) so it isn’t inconceivable that such a cryptek or group thereof did something crazy like that.

Crypteks are mad scientists, wizards, evil geniuses, and the high school nerd with god-level tech skills rolled into one, with a side of insanity.

The best part though? There are so many crypteks you can make anything you want with them, no lore justification needed. :tu:
