Necromunda was (and is still) always my favourite GW game. I think it's because at the time it first came out I was living in a house with 4 other gamers and we played regularly about 3-4 times a week and had an amazing campaign going.

I'm not sure the new edition is as good as the original in terms of campaign play, but I might be looking through rose-tinted glasses based on those halcyon days, lol.

I also really, really needed a break from painting things blue!! :)

So I bought 2 sets of Dark Uprising and have been working through the first set. I have completed 4 floor tiles and am pretty much done on the columns and walls.

I thought it was best to get the scenery out of the way as I can use it for other games and then start initially with one of each gang.

So here's the scenery so far:

This, I am strongly looking forward to. Your efforts with all of that blue were pretty excellent, and leave me with high expectations for this project - which appear off to a grand start based on the terrain thus far

That looks....amazing!

Please, do tell how you have painted the floor tiles and the wall / column sections (and the overhead environment friendly LED lights) :-) I am one the verge of ordering a set of Dark Uprising myself - and what you have created looks exactly like what I imagined mine might look like, so please share your a recipe.

Cheers!

Master Ciaphas

Cheers chaps, it's also really nice to be painting scenery as it's loads of washes and drybrushing and you don't have to be super neat and tidy. :smile.:

In terms of recipes I'll run through below.

The floor tiles, columns and walls (except for their "lids") were all undercoated using Mechanicus Standard Grey. The "lids" for the walls and columns were sprayed Vallejo Bone white.

All of the grey parts were then washed with thinned Agrax Earthshade (about 5 parts Agrax to 1 part water).

Then drybrushed with Mechanicus Standard Grey, then Dawnstone and then lightly drybrushed Ushabti Bone.

Then the arches were picked out in Ushabti Bone.

The bone parts (including the "lids") were then given a thinned wash of Gryphonne Sepia and drybrushed Ushabti Bone.

The metallics are just Leadbelcher  washed with thinned Agrax Earthshade followed by thinned Gryphonne Sepia.

The lights are just Retributor Armour with a Reiklad Fleshshade washe and then highlighted back up.

The bulbs for the lights are painted initially with Ulthuan Grey and then given a very thin glaze of Baharoth Blue + Lahmian Medium.

Cheers everybody. I don't have a huge update as I am finishing the last of the single walls and they all look pretty much the same.

The Necromunda decal sheet is very cool though so thought I would post a pic:

Other than that i have magnetised the columns and walls and am planning to get the pipes and doors started this weekend.

If the UK weather will hold off long enough for me to do any priming..... last weekend the paint was coming out of the can sideways and apparently this weekend won't be any better..... :smile.:

Extremely cool looking terrain. What is the recipe for that khaki yellow?

Hi Ilgoth, do you mean the bone colour in the archways?

That's literally just Ushabti Bone with a watered down Gryphonne Sepia wash (about 3:1 wash:water) and then drybrushed with Ushabti Bone. It's super quick.

Or the yellow on the signs and junction boxes?

That's Averland Sunset with a Gryphonne Sepia Wash (same as above) and then highlighted Averland Sunset and then highlighted Yriel Yellow. :)

Thanks guys. :)

In between work and the dreadful UK weather I haven't been able to get much (if any) priming done recently. So a tiny update - I've built and magnetised some stuff but this is literally all the painting I've been able to do.

Very WIP on one of the doors, just wanted to sketch in one of them to see how they looked. Needs chipping, decals etc but so far pretty happy with it.

So first door is done, and the other 3 are almost done. These are actually a bit of a pain to paint once assembled as it's tricky to get inside the door frames so next time I will paint in sub-assemblies.

You can also see now why you shouldn't prime in British weather, lol. Thankfully on this it doesn't really matter. :)

This scenery is all so beautiful. Amazing work. I think maybe its a bit too clean for the underhive tho. I always imagined even the 'nice' areas being covered in grafitti and gang slogons

I know what you mean, I think when everything's done I may go back and some graffiti from the decal set.

I have never really mastered weathering so might try out some techniques on the spare barricades and doors I have from the first Necromunda Underhive set.

The footplates on the doors were the first time i was happy with sponge weathering so I might grime up some bits. :)

Cheers chaps, and thanks Cheex, I am actually getting quite into hazard stripes at the mo. :)

So finished off the rest of the doors which means the doors, columns, walls and 4 floor tiles are now complete. I just have the pipes, stairs, barricades and platforms left to do and then that's one set finished.

I'm gonna do the pipes next as they will be quick and then might make a start on one of the gangs.
  • 3 weeks later...
Hi everybody,

A quick update, working from home now has the advantage that I get more painting done which is at least one silver lining.

I've spent this week getting all the "add on" bits done before moving onto the stairs and platforms.

At this rate though I should have the first set of scenery completed by the end of this week and next week i will make a start on the gangs.

For now though here's what I've managed to get done over the last few days:

Plasma conduits

90441931-10163345925950096-1052885656084

90796576-10163345921865096-6476511314557

Water tank (6 of these but I ran out of magnets...)

91545432-10163363957080096-7756655960994

Lift

91502314-10163364071560096-1551494340826

Terminals - all 6 now finished

90686315-10163351019540096-2149548526541

90712212-10163351019735096-7499011825074

90925848-10163382575330096-2077474736182

91372805-10163382574905096-5197911769720

91503496-10163382574375096-6064936860713

Cheers chaps. :)

Well, I'm nearing the finish line with the first set of scenery. Managed to tget the platforms finished off.

The photos haven't come out very well - the metallics are actually more heavily weathered in real life.

92042001-10163420870220096-4939441853322
92138439-10163420863240096-4118552360425
92177560-10163420865635096-9096270116181
92411878-10163420868945096-8918599997889
92463509-10163420861885096-8295831938992

So I now just have the stairs and handrails to do and then I will start on the Goliaths that I have - just because I have quite a few of them. I'll paint the barricades and scatter terrain at the same time. :)

After that I reckon I'll do the Enforcers and then move back on to terrain.
