Cheers Majkhel. :)

Not a hugely exciting update today but I have been mostly painting.... stairs. :)

These took longer than expected and I need to go back and do a tiny bit of tidying up but happy with them. So I just have the handrails to do now and, barring the barricades, that's the first set of terrain complete.

For me that's super quick as I only started in January. Let's hope I can keep the momentum up.

I want to know what gang controls that part of the underhive...Either they're some sort of militant Janitors or they got meth-heads cleaning up the hood for some dust

Personally, I think it's an excellent colouration - we see so much of the rust and grime bulkheads elsewhere, this is a welcome change of pace; kinda recalls some of the better bits of 2nd edition, but done right.

But as applies the second part of your comment, that I actually came here to reply to ... that's actually a surprisingly viable idea for someone to pick up. "Cleanliness is next to Godliness", filth breeds plague-zombies and mutation; and while the Redemptionists etc. seem to take the approach  that promethium makes for an admirable spray-cleaner, I could well see a group or a guild whose (self-)appointed role within their corner of the Hive would be to keep it spotlessly sanitized. Whether this is an act of genuine religious devotion, or due to the kind of strung-out on stimms obsession that insists the crawling under the skin and darting shadow-bugs ends when the dirt ends ... or both ...

Cheers everybody.

@The4thHorseman - I would love to say the hazard stripes on the stairs were freehanded but I have to admit I'd be lying if I did. ;) I used decals from the Necromunda decal set, which is amazing btw. I then weathered them up so they didn't look like decals. They were pretty fiddly though so still took a bit of work but I wouldn't have done it if I had to paint them. :)

And in terms of my superclean Underhive I guess that's the Ultramarine in me, lol. I suppose my painting style is very clean and I wanted the terrain to match my minis, but I also plan to use the terrain for 30K and 40K and I am not great at weathering so kept it minimal. For me though this is very messy, ha ha. :)

So I finally managed to get the first box of terrain finished. Then got ill and ran out of superglue which means I have 250 magnets sitting around doing nothing....

Sorry for the truly terrible pics but I started playing around with the terrain and I'm happy with it so far. I've left everything modular so this is just a layout I set up but when I can get all the floor tiles out I will take some better pics.

My plan was to now start Goliaths as I have lots of them, but.... the Enforcers are just too cool so I have built 5 which I plan on painting up this week.

Hopefully now I'm feeling better I should be able to get more done.

Cheers chaps, and yes, I am starting to a bit mad. I spent ages in the queue at the supermarket yesterday taking photos of the hazard tape they had used to mark out social distancing...... lol.

So I have made a start on the Enforcers. I always paint one up as a test model to decide on colours etc and then realised why I was going to do Goliaths first...

I don't have all the paints I need for painting black.... doh! So I just paid a fortune on ebay for the colours I need so hopefully judging by the extortionate postage rates they should arrive tomorrow....

I also made a start on their bases.

The Enforcer test model is my first ever attempt using contrast paints. I absolutely hate painting black and would never do it for an army but for a dozen or so models for Necromunda I don't mind. But as I don't often paint black (probably why I didn't have enough paints...) I thought I'd try out Black Templar.

I did some fairly unconventional stuff though, lol. I actually painted and highlighted the cloth parts before applying the Black Templar. You can't really see them that well in the photo but this then gives me a guide to highlight up from now.

The cloth bits need highlighting up using Skavenblight Dinge and Stormvermin Fur (2 of the paints on order)

The armour areas look messy now but they have just had a sketch in of Dark Reaper. This will glazed down with Corvus Black and then highlights of Thunderhawk Blue and Russ Grey (the other 2 paints on order...).

But for a test piece it's coming along better than expected and the contrast paint made life easier. I just wish it would stop rubbing off the model.......

Some slightly better photos.

Frustratingly still waiting for paints to arrive so I made a start on another Enforcer and tried out an idea on the wrist mounted screen, It's supposed to be an ECG monitor, similar to Tempestus Scions. A bit messy but hopefully be able to get it neater next time and then if it's not too much of a pain will go back and tidy this one up.

I really, really want to get the black finished on the test model to see if the recipe works but you can see better in the photos how much of a difference using contrast paints has made.

Although they're a bit messy you can see where the highlights will eventually go.

If the paints arrive tomorrow I should have 5 of these completed before the weekend which means I can start of the Subjugators.

There's tons of flip out screen arms for the shadowspear Infiltrators and Intercessors. Also almost every deathwatch veterans right arms have 1. If you're in the US I have quite a few I'll never use. I could send them in an envelope

Cheers chaps. :smile.:

@Debauchery101 - cheers, I looked at the Primaris/Phobos ones and they were too big but I had forgotten about the Deathwatch ones. I have quite a few of those kicking around so will see if they look any better.

Well my paints finally arrived!! Considering the paints were £12 and the postage was £14 I should think so too..... never using Ebay again...

So I have tried out the recipe I had in mind and have applied highlights to the black areas on the test model:

I'm happy with the black cloth and will use that. The contrast paint really, really helped with this.

I'm not 100% sold on the black armour though. Admittedly it isn't helped by the model having rivets in the most annoying places, lol. I will wait to see what it looks like with the rest done though but right now it looks more blue than black. I guess as these guys are sort of police that doesn't really matter too much but isn't the look I was going for.

I might redo it with a grey recipe but I wanted the carapace armour to stand out from the other black leather.

Thoughts?

Cheers PeteySodes, I have decided I can live with the blue black. :)

I tried a grey black on another model but didn't like it so went back to the blue black.

Apologies for very repetitive WIP pics but I made a start on the Captain. Still also very WIP but I wanted to check I could replicate the test model. Turs out I found a better way to do the screens on the wrists too. :)

Tomorrow I will actually paint up the heads and get these 2 finished. Now I know the recipe works I should have the other 3 done by the end of the weekend and then it's on to the Subjugators. Gotta say I am loving being in lock down, lol.

Nice enforcers!

Question on your Terrain....did you keep it modular or did you glue it all together to make that large piece? I just built all mine and I'm finding this set is not great to stay together. I'm also just trying to make sense of using the modular parts. I also don't have the floor tiles that are not available to buy anywhere which may help

  • 2 weeks later...

Cheers IceWind, it is an amzing set though and it's keeping me busy during lockdown. :smile.:

Not as much work done as I had hoped, sadly work kicked up a notch in the last couple of weeks which has meant I didn't get as much time to paint.

The first 5 Enforcers are almost done though, feel like I rushed them a bit today but I am also conscious I have another set of terrain to paint and a lot more gangs, lol.

Once the 5 Enforcers are finished, which I'm hoping will be tomorrow, I will make a start on the 6 Subjugators and then should have enough to play a game (whenever that might be....)

Quick taster, not 100% with the heads but they'll do for now.

Cheers BadgersInHills. :smile.:

Tiny update. I have built the 6 Subjugators and made a start on one. I hadn't realised how different they are to the Enforcers until I started painting them.

I also thought I would do the heads early on as well, lol, as the Enforcers looked weird without them for ages.

Still a way to go and I have made some mistakes on this too so will go back and tidy up. But these are quite fun to paint but also a bit fiddly.
