Greetings brothers! Im new to Ultramarines and wanted a solid list to learn everything I can about how the army works, and I was wondering what you all think of my list? Tear it apart if needed but I would like to take it to tournaments and whatnot. My local meta is crazy diverse so I couldn't really focus on one type of army type to build against.

Hellblasters and captain will be riding in the impulsor, aggressors and redemptors will run with Chaplin and Tiggy, while everything else runs objectives and strike squads? Im completely open to strategic use as well because im sure I'll be missing something lol Thank you so much everyone!

Looks like a pretty solid list. Personally I would drop the Lieutenant and try to find 13 points more to fit in a Thunderfire Cannon. I would also probably swap the Chaplain with a Techmarine upgraded to Master of the Forge to run along with the Redemptors, repairing them and using the warlord trait to give +1 to hit to all Vehicles within 6".

Also, unfortunately you can't choose psychic powers for Tigurius from two different disciplines, it's either three from Librarius or three from Indomitus disciples.

Thank you so much, I forgot about the physic powers being from the separate books, thank you for that! The Tech Marine is definitely a solid idea that I didn't think of

Here is some advice in bullet point format (Typing on a phone, not ideal):

-Chaplain is a not particularly reliable in my experience. I would drop him to save points and keep the HQs to 2-3 tops. Powers are cast at the start of the turn, and this is a big limitation. Consider a different set of detachments unless you're really keen on a brigade.

-Ultramarines Intercessors are better in 10 man squads. Bigger squads are best to maximise the punch of the stratagems and the extra leadership mitigates morale losses. It's never worth spending 2 CP on a 5 man squad to shoot twice, but it's definitely worth if for 10.

-Your list is a bit lacking in anti tank firepower, but it might get by on chipping away at tougher models. Touch and go depending on what you face.

-The Aggressors need a transport, they attract firepower. Hellblasters are also a popular target but I assume you'll transport them in the Impulsor?

-How do you feel about Forgeworld? The overall punch of the list would be increased by swapping the two Redemptors for two Contemptors with dual Twin Lascannons.

I think it’s a well designed list and the Chaplain is doing a lot for the army. He has to take five man squads of a Intercessors to get the double battalion. Contemptors would be a good swap.

This list is severely lacking in anti vehicle firepower.

Even with all those Supressors, you're still unreliably killing a SINGLE T7 3+ target.  Emperor help you if you go up against a Knight....

You've invested many points in troops that will not reliably recoup their investment.  At minimum you should drop 2 units of Intercessors down to Scouts.

Hellblasters are terrible in competitive play, they have a huge bullseye on their back and their lack of an INV save means they die like flies.  Loaded into an Impulsor every one of your games is going to resolve in 1 of two ways.  They either get blown out of the Impulsor before they get to move on turn 1 and subsequently evaporate....  Or they get off a single lackluster round of rapid fire shots....  and then subsequently evaporate.  Assuming 5 Hellblasters target a T7 3+ vehicle with full Captain +LT re-rolls they barely kill it.  If the target has even a 5++ save, the math suggests that the majority of the time they do a mere 8 wounds.

Aggressors are sadly in a similar boat.  On paper they are everything an Ultramarine player could want.  They have awesome rules that synergize really well with out Super-Doctrine, versatile combat abilties a lot of wounds....  And no INV save to speak of.  Meaning they die horribly.

Long story short, you need Lascannons, and you need them on platforms with INV saves if you want to keep them alive past turn 2.  My personal go-to has been a pair of Relic Contemptors with dual Twin Lascannons.  They're shockingly resilient, extremely mobile and are quite lethal in every bracket.

Litanies are cast at the start of the Battle Round, not start of the turn.  It's an important distinction as you effectively need to cast your litanies at the start of the opponents turn if you're going second.

For what it's worth, I think a Primaris Master of Sanctity with the 'Bellowing Orator' WL Trait is a very solid investment.  Probably even better than Cassius (though Cassius' price point is very hard to beat).

How popular are vehicles now with Imperial Fists being so popular. If they are prominent in your local meta try to work in a squad of DevCents. I rarely see Knights anymore... you can take Seal of Oath.

This looks like a very fluff list that would be fun in a specific style campaign game, but almost useless pretty much anywhere else. Cruor hits the points on the head.

Sure there's board control, but that won't help if everyone is dead because they have no invulnerable saves, no anti-tank weapons, no anti-aircraft weapons, and no horde-clearing power. While yes you have two dreadnoughts and three aggressors, those are three fairly easy turn 1 kills for most competitive lists.

Sadly, competitive lists look completely different from what you read in the books and stories.

I really appreciate all the input from everyone, I've learned a ton so far. Is there a thread or something of the sort that would have examples of what a competitive list is? How about threads that would be good for how to list build properly? Thank you so much everyone

I don't think there's any one good thread for that, as everyone plays differently and puts their own twist on "what's good". However, some google searches should come up with tournament strong lists. It also depends on what format you're playing in, such as ITC or something else. You could also search though the army list sections and see what people put in their competitive lists for ideas.

This is my most recent Ultramarine list. It's competitive in nature, but I don't sacrifice theme and what I personally want to run:

HQ:

-Chaplain Cassius, Catechism of Fire, Recitation of Focus

-Techmarine, Master of the Forge, Power Axe, Boltgun, The Endurant Protector

Troops:

-10 Intercessors, Power Fist, Grenade Launcher

-10 Intercessors, Power Fist, Grenade Launcher

-5 Infiltrators

-5 Infiltrators

Elites:

-3 Aggressors, Flamestorm Gauntlets

-Relic Contemptor Dreadnought, 2x Twin Lascannons, Cyclone Missile Launcher

Heavy Support:

-3 Eliminators with Bolt Sniper Rifles

-Repulsor Executioner, Heavy Laser Destroyer, Icarus Rocket Pod, Ironhail Heavy Stubber

-Contemptor Mortis Dreadnought, 2x Twin Lascannons, Cyclone Missile Launcher

Lord of War:

-Roboute Guilliman
