Daemon Prince Marbas
Are there any Death Guard legionaries who hate Nurgle and the downfall of the legion into corrupt Chaos Space Marines? infyrana
I'd imagine most... but when you're that infested with Nurgle physically, I suspect you're only going to be left with the grim prospects or to embrace it and support your brother astartes. tangoalphatwo
Interesting thought. I could see some DG marines hating Nurgle and hating what they’ve become, yet staying loyal to their brothers. infyrana 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/362081-alatrist-dg/#findComment-5480039 Share on other sites
anarchistscourge
There were a few during 30K that stayed loyal to the emperor. Nathanial Garro is one and went on to become the first Knight Errant. 40K wise, I think its not likely to happen, Nurgle has infected them so fully that even their soul is devoted to the chaos gods. I may be wrong but unlike Loyal Space Marines who fall to Chaos, its almost unheard of for Chaos Space Marines to go back to being Loyal. The closest would be the Alpha Legion, who still see themselves as loyalists to the Imperium of Man (just not the emperor) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/362081-alatrist-dg/#findComment-5480160 Share on other sites
Vorenus
What about Black Shields in the Deathwatch? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/362081-alatrist-dg/#findComment-5480959 Share on other sites
WickedJester1013
Lords of silence was a good book for deathguard ideas. Showed how some believe in their primarch, some believe in the despoiler(abbadon) and some are split. But I think a big thing to realize is that a lot of chaos dont view them selves as evil. A lot of them think of them selves as free from the facade of the imperium. In lords of silence a deathguard talks to a normal human serving in the military and talks about how he’s not really happy. Is he happy to work his life to the bone for something that doesn’t care for him? Why suffer? Their view nurgle as bliss, as freedom, which to some extent is true nurgle looks bad from the outside but there is a reason a lot of the models smile lol. Azekai
I imagine it would be rather easy for some of the Death Guard to hate Nurgle, while at the very same time spitefully using the gifts of the Plaguefather to lash out at those who cross their path. When the Destroyer Hive fell upon the Death Guard, I imagine that some of the 14th went kicking and screaming into Nurgle's embrace, and some of them may well resent the decisions of both Mortarion and Typhus.I rather like the idea of a warband of plague marines who despise their patron even as they spread His gift- they want to make the galaxy rot because their one remaining desire is to see everyone else to share in their misery. No one escapes. infyrana 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/362081-alatrist-dg/#findComment-5483026 Share on other sites
Dr_Ruminahui
The Purge, while not strictly "deathguard" are nurgle aligned have fluff where they are trying to annihilate all life. A deathguard warband could have a similar outlook, seeking to kill all to prevent themselves's from spreading nurgle's "gifts". Of course, the most straight forward way of them not doing so would be to eliminate themselves (rather than the potential recipients), so you would likely need some other fluff to explain why they don't take that route... maybe they feel they have greater purpose that they must fulfill. Maybe they try to eliminate potential plague carriers in advance of attacks by other nurgle aligned forces.
