Hello!

A little context first; I'm mainly a Night Lords player (got around 5,000 pts of them), and I've gotten a little bored of running the same style lists with limited success. I do well against basically anyone who isn't running NuMarines, though that is a discussion for a different topic...

I decided to make a goofy list with some models I don't often get on the table, and I was inspired by an article by Dan over at his Overwhelming Odds website talking about using an armored spearhead maneuver.

Night Lords have a bit of utility provided by Faith and Fury, but in general I still feel they are the second weakest legion behind say Word Bearers so I was wondering if you lot had a different legion trait in mind for this list:

Without further delay, the list:

Battalion #1:

Chaos Lord on foot, plasma pistol, chainsword

Sorcerer on foot, force stave, prescience + other (usually delightful agonies)

Naked 5 man marine squad, 5x boltgun and a Chainsword on sergeant

Biker squad, 2x meltagun and combi-melta, Nurgle, Icon of Despair

Havocs: 4x Reaper Chaingun, combi-bolter and chainsword

Battalion #2:

Exalted Champion, Warlord: Dirty Fighter (+1 to wound in melee if more friendly models than enemy within 3") Power Sword- Relic, the Flayer, and Power Fist.

Master of Executions

Naked cultists X10

Vanguard:

Chaos Lord on Bike, Combi-Melta and Power Axe

Hellforged Contemptor with 2x Butcher Cannons

9x Berzerkers, Chainaxe/Chainsword with Icon of Wrath

9x Berzerkers, Chainaxe/Chainsword with Icon of Wrath

Chaos Rhino, 2x Combi bolter

Chaos Rhino, 2x Combi bolter

2k on the nose.

Basic Battleplan is to have the cultists and marines standing on 1/3 of the field basically just screening things out, while the havocs/contemptors stand in the middle 1/3 of the field shooting across at the far side delaying enemy reaction to the main spearhead of the army, which is the Lord on bike and 2x melta bikes charging forward on one flank with the 2 melee characters and the berzerkers in the pair of rhinos.

I'm really not expecting to win many games, just looking for a bit of fun. As for why I didn't put this in list building or in the Night Lords forum is that what I'm really looking to start here is a conversation about our various legion and renegade options and what they're strengths and weaknesses are.

Thanks in advance for any input!

Looks like a fun list.

One possible legion is Red Corsairs. That way you can advance and charge with your bikers and Zerkers, especially your biker lord.

You also get a respectable number of command points as Red Corsairs and some nifty other tricks, such as taking a relic melta for your biker lord.

And Maelstrom's Bite gives you Tide of Traitors for a CSM Squad, although to take advantage of this stratagem you might want to drop a Havoc Squad, move the reaper chaincannons into a CSM Squad, and increase the size of that CSM Squad up to at least 10 troopers.

Also, you could combine your lord and sorc into Huron (who has both the buff aura and spells). That would almost free up points for a 2nd HQ such as an exalted champ to buff the Zerkers.

Good luck!

I do like the look of the red corsairs! My main concerns with them were the level of stratagem utility (I believe they only have the 1 unique one?) and the fact that I loose access to VotLW. Advance and charge would be incredible as you say, and although I do already have an exalted champion having more room in the points to play around with by taking Huron is never a bad thing.

Alpha legion would be another option to keep VotLW and protect the firebase a bit more with the -1 and allow for some shenanigans with movement

Oh wow! I never even considered alpha legion for some reason, I had forgotten about them. (Kinda they’re point I guess)

Those rules would be quite good! The warlord fake out trait is strong for a warlord that wants to be in melee who doesn’t have an invuln, there’s some good stratagems and some really incredible relics. Using We are Alpharius to let the combi melta biker lord snipe characters could be quite fun as well.

Thanks for the tip!
