Furnace Lord
Just curious which of the four cult marines people think work best under BL rules? I've considered adding detachments of say, Death Guard, and just painting them in appropriate colors using their rules, but I'm curious if anyone gets mileage out of any of the 4 under a true BL detachment. I've never played Black Legion, myself, but I did look into it as an option when I was starting my Undivided army. Rubrics are i n s a n e, with the advance-and-shoot nonsense with Black Legion. Advance a Force Weapon across the board and use them as shock troops, or hang back and use them as a high-leadership gunline unit. They're versatile. BrainFireBob
I also would back Rubrics based on theoryhammer, although Abbaddon+Noise Marines has caught my eye. Snazzy
They fly under the radar, but a basic squad of Berserkers teamed with my DA solves lots of problems. Not because Berserkers are so enormously helped by BL rules, but by the rest of the army being well served in the shooting phase by BL rules. The DA is proof of that. I take it because of Council of Traitors. The boost it gives to Berserkers, is enormous. A Champion with Powerfist is getting 8 attacks at S10 a Fight Phase that can be stacked by First Among Traitors, Dark Zealotry, etc. And, because they can fight up to 3x in a Fight phase, the bonuses from Merciless Fighters triples in value. Obviously, you can do better with Berserkers in other Legions. But, in context, they really work for BL. Sonoftherubric21
"best" is difficult. I have used Noise Marines with some success but frankly they are miles better in EC. Rubrics are good choices overall and get some mileage. Berzerkers as above also get great mileage and fill a gap for us. Dr_Ruminahui
What's the difference for Noise Marines in EC versus BL? Is it that they are troops, or is it the new EC strat that buffs their shooting? Is it that they are troops, or is it the new EC strat that buffs their shooting? All of the above, presumably. ObSec is very powerful on tough, shooty powered armor. More powerful on Rubrics and Plague Marines, maybe, but still powerful on 'Zerkers and Noise Marines. Prot
Personally I think it's still Zerkers for me. Especially now that Grey Knights will melt Possessed. It presents a good case for basic squads in Rhino's. undivided_apostle
Rubricae and beserkers are the easiest to fit into your army. I use beserkers as my lord's honour guard. Rubrics can dig into cover and shoot with good ap. Noise marines are good but your better off using cacaphony of excess on obliterators. I haven't used plague marines as black legion.
