UtariOnzo
Having quietly read the lore on the Star Phantoms, the Dark Angels Legion and deciding I’m tired of using Green Blood Angels/Ultramarines when I fancy a change of tactics, I decided I wanted to try coming up with a force that’d seamlessly use all three codexes with nary a brow raised at the paint job applied, while still being scions of the Lion. I was inspired by the colour scheme of the Angels of Penance ( https://warhammer40k.fandom.com/wiki/Angels_of_Penance ) a Chapter Approved colour scheme from waay back in 3rd edition, which got the ball rolling. Able to use Dark Angels shoulder pads and detailed vehicle doors with ease for fanciness. Yellow like Imperial Fists (breachers), stylised wings similar to Blood Angels (assault squads)... this all feels very Stormwing to me! So, outside of the obvious emphasis on Jump pack HQs (Smash Caps and Chaps) that’ll work whether I’m rocking codex SM/DA/BA, what suggestions for units to work towards might folk recommend? I’m thinking of pushing Company Veterans with guns and shields to be Breacher copy cats to start. I’m also oogling the new HH Terminator Special Unit as a basis for Deathwing Knights conversion. Any fluff ideas for this chapter? I’m unsure how closely tied to their brother Unforgiven they should be. Somewhere between Guardians of the Covenant and Star Phantoms perhaps? UtariOnzo
Some progress on the test colours for the model. My painting skill is somewhat, well, poor but I'm happy how he's coming out so far Wrath of Bruinen 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/362478-angels-of-penance-stormwing-in-m42-iron-guantlet-2020/#findComment-5494191 Share on other sites
Bryan Blaire
Your skills don't look poor to me at all - what were you wanting to achieve that you don't feel you did? UtariOnzo
Better highlighting and blending on the yellow, for a start! My mobile camera's not good enough to really capture all the details, but I feel I could do better. I guess I just need more practice! Bryan Blaire
Not sure how much washing you did on the model, but one spot you might be able to use some wash/shading to help blend is right across the top of the chain on the model's right leg. As far as highlighting, you may want to try and push it a bit more - did you only increase the highlight by a single color? For the camera, you may want to see if you can get two lights on the model to take the image, if you don't already use that - that may help it some. UtariOnzo
I'm looking to use the Sternguard kit as a base for Comapny Veterans with Stormshields, but utilising boarding shields. I'm unsure if I should just go for the Forgeworld Boarding shield upgrade pack when Gamesworkshop starts up production again, or if there might be some cheap arms around on the internet that'd be suitable combined with Shapeways custom shields. Any suggestions? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/362478-angels-of-penance-stormwing-in-m42-iron-guantlet-2020/#findComment-5497164 Share on other sites
UtariOnzo
As part of the Liberalia Martiale competition, I will be posting my Challenge 2 pictures, updates and pledges here. I aim to go for the full gold standard of HQ, Troop and 5 additional units, but with the current Games Workshop shutdown I'm aiming to spread out my units over the next 2 months to hopefully aquire on theme models for my force as I go. To start, however, I have my Master of the 1st Company Not-Belial: I will be painting this guy up in the Chapter colours, along with adding the cloak. The Volkite gun will be staying, to counts as a stormbolter for regular games, but also to give me something to make a datasheet from for the competition! If the Dark Angels can have the Last Jetbike, the Angels of Penane can have the last Astartes Volkite charger ;) We also have my master of the Apothecarion, a counts as Deathwing Apothecary: http://puu.sh/FtW3l/78e316c41b.jpg This guy was a simple swap for a Deathwing Terminator stormbolter for the needler pistol the model came with. UtariOnzo
Update to this as the 2nd challenge comes to a close. Unfortunately, lockdown ended swiftly for me, and with a kid running around on weekends bored from being locked away I just ceased to have much free time at all. Anyhoo, here's my results.http://puu.sh/GiAyT/f338cf3c0c.jpgDeathwing Apothecary!http://puu.sh/GiAyA/db5ccb901e.jpgWIP of a Primaris Chaplainhttp://puu.sh/GiAyi/802ddf1d15.jpgAnd here he is, alongside my Counts As Ezekiel, Chief Librarian Kaleb http://puu.sh/GiAP3/b5e570727f.jpg Primaris (Interrogator?) Chaplain Jakob http://puu.sh/GiAxG/bb283dd799.jpgWIP of my Smash-Chap!http://puu.sh/GiAxl/8cd6c493c6.jpgFinished Interrogator-Chaplain with Jump Pack! Master of the Reclusiarch, High Absolver and Chief Interrogator Jehoel! http://puu.sh/GiAHv/2aae2388de.jpg And finally, Grand Master Khamael to round off the line up.Unfortunately I didn't manage to finish my favourite on theme unit, 40k 'breachers' Company Veterans with Storm Shields, or grab the Inner Circle Cataphractii to convert into Deathwing Knights. Magnetising the Veterans alone took something like 1hr each with my slow butthttp://puu.sh/GiAEw/1b9f760811.jpgWhile I failed to get Gold Standard, I have enjoyed learning to paint yellow and diving into a different kind of Unforgiven Chapter's mind set.
