Zeuspro
Hi, I'm just getting back into the hobby and as my marine company are painted in the old-old games workshop colours I ordered the Vallejo Game color paint range to match the older models. They all seem great except the "Bloody Red" paint has dried with a wet look, almost glossy. Is this how its supposed to be, a bad batch or have i just not shaken the paint enough? Anyone have any experience with it? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/362522-vallejo-paints/ Share on other sites
Lord Marshal
In my experience, Model Colour paints tend to have a more matte finish. Game Colour is closer to Citadel's slightly glossy look with a more vibrant range of colours. Razblood
Game color bloody red is a problem paint in the range and can be very hit and miss with the quality, though I've only had the issue you describe once with a bottle of black so it may just be from a bad batch. Brother Desultor
If you watch Angel Giraldez's video on painting Blood Angels - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3MO5ESqJaSM&t=577s, he uses Game Colour Scarlet Red and at 1:15 in, he says to add a Matt Medium "because Game Colour paint range tends to be satin....." Might be worth a try to see if it helps you with the Bloody Red. Firedrake Cordova
The other option is to look at Coat D'Arms' Fantasy Range - they are the same paints as the 1990's-era GW paints (as in same manufacturer, same formula), even down to the flip-top pots. https://www.blackhat.co.uk/product/104-blood-red/ (FWIW, the same manufacturer also makes the Formula P3 paints, which contain a few good reds) Edited March 13, 2020 by Firedrake Cordova Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/362522-vallejo-paints/#findComment-5490420 Share on other sites
Marshal Vespasian
Or you go for the warcolours old school range In general game colour seems to have some problem colours. The yellows are terrible and the greens seem to seperate like heck. The dark green doesnt cover very good. I have a lot of game colour bittles because of the comparability to gw. Some are quite good. The metals are horrible and clumpy, as is the white.
