At the moment I am going through a bit of a mental health crisis, the black dog has reared it’s ugly head again. Mum had a stroke almost one year ago and the reminder of that has sent me for six. Luckily for her and me and the rest of the family she recovered pretty well, while she was in hospital we found out she has diabetes and that was likely the cause of the stroke, she is now medicated and has made lifestyle adjustments. Hopefully she’ll be around many years to keep me on the straight and narrow and pick each other up when we fall.

Anyway to clear my head I went on the train to Fremantle, a lovely little port city about 25 minutes from my house by train. It’s where Bon Scott of ACDC fame comes from and Kailis Bros Make the best fish and chips in Perth and Cicerello’s comes a close second. Both worth taking a trip to Fremantle if you’re ever in Perth.

Anyway I popped into the Warhammer Store down there and noticed a WD in a display cabinet and thought it was March’s not having seen the cover of that yet. Turns out it was a one of a kind custom print for a kid that is sick and Make a Wish got in touch with he manager who then got in touch with the design studio in Nottingham who kitbashed/converted and painted some cool minis for him. They converted a Leman Russ out of Gulliman, some Space Marines belonging to a custom chapter they created for him, and a AT Emperor Class Titan with the cathedral on its back out of a Knight Castellan. The WD was written around these minis with IA articles rules for the SM and Russ and rules for the Titan, A paint splatter article for the SM and the rest a written photographic tour of the Design Studio.

Anyway the whole thing made me feel less :cuss y and depressed for a couple of hours. I know the old adage of photos or it didn’t happen, but felt it would have been intrusive towards this lad. Anyway I know people give GW a hard time about a lot of things, and a lot of the time it isn’t unfounded. But in this instance they went above and beyond for a sick kid in Freo.

That's nice to hear about what GW did.

I'm sorry you're going through this yourself. I'm sure many of us have some experience of that black dog. So I wish you and your family well.

Thank you for sharing.

I know I find the hobby calming and I hope it helps you too.

I actually was one of the kids who got a Make a Wish, Wish. They're good people and put a ton of effort into anything the kid asks for and is remotely feasible. They can't cure cancer but they can definitely do anything under the sun the kid can think of short of cloning a dinosaur. After all, what kind of :censored: is going to say no when somebody calls up and asks to arrange a special event for a kid with serious medical conditions?

A mate of mine from Freo rang me yesterday to check up on me as Ive been having a bad year; theres always glimmers of light and hope out there Capt.

The hobby can be great for something to focus on or just have things to look forward to.

Thanks for your kind words and wishes. I’ve been catching up on a bit of Dr Who, Jodie Whitaker is awesome in the role. Plan on doing a bit of hobby tomorrow in between working on my assessments for TAFE (Technical and Further Education, basically what we refer to our Polytechnic training system here in Australia). I’m studying to become a disability support worker. Decided to change work after a disempowering event at work last year where the foreman said some derogatory and unkind things pertaining to my mental health, and within weeks of Mums’s hospital admission. I though to myself I’m better than this and shouldn’t be putting up with :cuss like this at work. As about there six years, when I started there I thought it could be a stepping stone and may able to become a qualified fabricator/welder if they’d let me do an adult apprenticeship, but they were happy to let me keep doing all the menial :cuss kicker jobs. So now I’m hopefully, if all goes according to plan, work in an industry where I can make a difference and be an empowering influence in others lives. And hopefully by empowering others I can fell empowered in my own life with regard to my mental health.

Sorry for rambling, didn’t mean to say all that, just wanted to thank you for kind word and thoughts.

Hope you’re doing well and that your year picks up. Are you in Australia. I’m in Perth.

Small world. My brother and sister both decided to move to Perth years back and I got to visit Perth and Fremantle a couple of times. Lovely places. It's heartwarming to hear about the lengths they went to in order to make one kid's life a little better.

Yeah I thought it was really cool. GW probably get kis coming through WHW sometimes with Make aWish I'd imagine but this young bloke probably couldn't travel because its on the other side of the world and needs stay local for treatments probably, so Mitch the store manager and the guys in Nottingham bought a small piece of Warhammer World to him. Mitch the manager, is a great guy and one of the best terrain builders I've met in person.

A lot of people gripe about GWs business practices, etc. Then you hear about something like this and realize that there are a lot of decent people who work for GW in various places.

Thanks for sharing this, and keep up the fight against the black dog. Your brothers and sisters in the hobby are with you.

As another Aussie, and one who’s had numerous different involvements with the black dog, I hope you keep on being awesome, brother. It may not be much, but feel free to PM if you ever want to chat. I know just how cruddy it can be.

May the only dog that beats you be the occasional Space Wolf, and even then, get some revenge afterwards.
