Hey friends, for context we have just finished the Hidden Vault and are about to launch into the Dreaded Ambull quest. I already have Escalation so we have used some of these characters which has been great.... however:

1) Anyone else found that after 4 Strongholds and the Hidden Vault all their characters are ridiculously overpowered....? Like at this point I am sure we could probably one-shot the Ambull in one turn.....

2) Also certain items can insta-kill anything. This makes me a bit upset that there is no immunity from this from 'epic' creatures such as Ambull, Mallex etc. Nothing worse than building up to an epic fight and it being over on the first 6 role cos you blapped him into the fking warp!

3) in-part relating to the first problem, we have power-spiked so early that there seems to be no point buying items now. I have TEN items on Espern Locarno and there is literally no point buying upgrades cos he is so OP......

4) There eventually becomes quite a same-ness to a lot of items

5) Gotfred De Montbard is by FAAAAR the best character - maybe a nerf?

Ways to fix this:

1) Make the next expansions harder.... like a LOT harder. Build the game for the fact that by now most people have super-pimped characters.

2) New Resource Cards and Ships in new expansions to allow for some motivation to hunt for archeotech... its useless now.

3) It would be cool to see new characters again like Escalation that can 'bring you back to the start' kind of.

Does anyone else relate to this?

Thinking about it, it would be good if they could build multiple difficulty levels into the expansions so they would suit different level parties.

Higher level gives higher reward so you could play again at a higher level.

Maybe adjust the damage and health of enemies with level, adjust the behaviour table so they are more aggressive at higher levels.

Could be an interesting house rules project.

Have you looked at the rules introduced in the Annual book? Specifically the Nemesis Dice. As well as the Abominable Intellect expansion cards. Both help quite a bit in making things more challenging.

Although I am considering doing some homebrew rules in the near future, try to buff the hostiles without having to resort to just using MORE of them like the Abominable cards go for
