Hi guys

Im thinking about getting into 30k. However im unsure about which legion i want to pick; i have boiled my choice to either the night lords or the alpha legion.
The Alpha legion for tactical flexibility; nightlords because they are abit more murderous. I like both legions lore.
I would like to ask about a rule clarification to help me decide which one of the legions i want to pick.

Can units infiltrate with their dedicated transports ?
If so would this also apply to sevatars "master of ambush rule" ? as he can pick 3 non vehicle units as infiltrators.

I keep seeing people say infiltrators getting phospex dropped on their heads (im thinking a rhino or landraider may help).

I may just have to hold old for book 9 as it may have more nightlord stuff.

The new book is about to make the NL into the only legion with 3 Rites of War. I'd pick them since more people play Alpha Legion.

Also Alpha Legion is extremely popular in 30k, while NL one sees far less.

I might also mention that one of the NL specific Rite of Wars, Horror Cult, is pretty bad.

If you choose NL (or Sallies) you are in for some very patience challenging hours of painting. Most legions have their base colours on their armour (shaded and highlighted) and then they are done in terms of painting armour, But NL (and Sallies) have also details (NL have lightning bolts and Sallies flames that you most likely will have to freehand) on their armour that will need many extra hours.

In case you are not a keen hobbyist/painter, you might want to take into account the implications on the paint job too when you choose legion.

Well im still not decided in terms of which legion i want to play.

In terms of painting i have far more ideas for the nightlords. I have painted a couple of 40k nightlords and they look amazing when you can do the lightning; its not as hard as some make it out to be. I have a ton of modelling ideas to make them look the part; alot of the kroot sprues had lots of savage looking knifes and flaying tools with chunks of meat. The old beast men kits had alot of skulls which is great for tanks and characters.

I just need to learn to use green stuff to make finger necklaces and other jeejaws. i would be going for a apocalypse now vibe; a mix of horror and madness.

I don't think painting lightning is that hard. I would say most difficult part is the paint and brush management to be able to paint thin enough lines. After that part is sorted out it's pretty easy to just paint random dendritic patterns. Sure my technique ain't winning golden demon awards, but it's pretty nice looking on tabletop.
