Grim Dog Studios
Hi all, I'm wanting to achieve a bright blue for my 30K ultras but not sure how to go about it. My previous 30k ultras were rather dark, which I liked, but it sort of obscured the detail a bit and made them look "less interesting" in a way, especially when on the table. After seeing quite a few armies out there with a lighter blue I've decided to go a similar route with my new force. I recently found this article of some HH Ultras on Warhammer Community https://www.warhammer-community.com/2019/09/12/adams-xiii-legionfw-homepage-post-4/ , and instantly fell in love with the blue that the painter has achieved and would love to try and get something close (or close enough because I am far from being as skilled). Does anyone have any thoughts on how I could possibly replicate this? Cheers James
Axineton
Vallejo game air ultramarine blue looks similar to that colour they’ve got going on there mate. I used it for this dude although never finished him but you get the idea. http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/347437-white-consuls-3rd-company-the-2020-reboot/?p=5180157 Firedrake Cordova 1 Back to top
Aspecti
Vallejo Model Color Ultramarine 70.839 is the one I use as I also like bright blue Ultramarines. Compared to the Vallejo Air Ultramarine, the Model Color one is slightly brighter and less purpleish.
Grim Dog Studios
Many thanks to the both of you, I will have to try them both out on some testers. Hopefully I can source some in the current times. Looks like I shall be busting out my airbrush that I haven’t used in a long time as well, as basecoating 50/60 marines and accompanying vehicles with a brush doesn’t sound all that fun! BLACK BLŒ FLY
I recommend a light primer such as grey. It will make the blue pop more. Grim Dog Studios and Redrandy93 2 Back to top
