I just finished one squad command, one of four, the squad that is full lighting claws. The Hirpi Squad is 7 member strong plus the commander, a Praetor (Vinas Soranno, "The Flamewalker" captain of the 14th  Company of the Sons of Horus, in this case). Made all recycling old stuff, with some new pieces added. Very happy with the result!

This rescue project needed a lot of work, lost some detail when stripping the resin due to the number of layers that needed removing. Had to redo the rivets on the torso.

Torso needed adjustment to accommodate the plasma cannons, printed by Archie’s Forge (good quality, good service).

Leg broke during the stripping process so used it as an opportunity to repose the right leg, cabling required a bit of GS work to join the gap.

This dread replaces the role my vindicators used to have, psychological warfare with pie plates!

hope you like him!

  • 2 weeks later...

This week from the box that just keeps on giving: a whole bunch of Imperial Fists bits that I didn’t even know were in there! Backpacks, shoulder pads and vehicle symbols in metal:

Also in the box was a bunch of fancy torsos that had scorpions on them - shaved off the scorpion symbols and used them with the backpacks as the basis for a veteran squad. So my kitbashed Loken Fist now has a kitbashed bodyguard unit with a range of CC weapons and a couple of hand flamers. Quite pleased with these guys:

So I've been working on making a framework for some narrative battles in my local group in a attempt to organise the Horus Heresy scene a little bit. Currently I am looking at making it a simple ladder campaign taking place in three theatres of war. Space. Wasteland and Urban. So the attackers will play in the space threatre, and if they win the next "turn" will be in wasteland, then urban. Likely ending in a big final battle should the attackers take the urban theatre.

I am wanting to add some character to the battles by having there be special rules that apply to each theatre, For example inspired by the recent article about a narrartive event onver on Goonhammer that seemed like a hooting time would be something like.

Sandstorm
At the start of each game turn, roll a dice, on a 6 the great storms of the wasteland has come upon the battlefield. During that turn Night Fighting is in effect, and all Open Ground is treated as Difficult Terrain.

While I am still working on some more logistical issues, such as how to determine a campaign "turn" and such, if folk have any suggestions for similar special rules that could apply in a ZM Spaceship enviroment, or in a urban enviroment I am all ears. One thought I had for the city is to replace ruins with rubble should there be multiple attempts to assault it, but that would likely be on top of a more constant rule.

I haven't actually got hold of the ZM rules but is there anything in there already about void warfare? You could maybe have something like if a ranged weapon of S8 or above misses, it is resolved against AV13 in the compartment the target unit was in - on a penetrating hit, the structural integrity fails and every model in the compartment must take an initiative test or suffer a wound with no armour saves (one-wound models get sucked into space, multi-wound models maybe take a tumble/are briefly starved of oxygen but then recover). Once this is resolved the ship is deemed to have activated a safeguarding forcefield and the integrity is restored. Each compartment can only have this happen once per shooting phase.

This is the angriest dreadnought I've ever seen!

Any progress?
