I know right? We've got some really great themed games too! All of the missions really scream bring more nukes, radphage, and phosphex.

How about not actually killing anything and running away from every fight? That would probably be considered a crime.

@Hungry Nostraman Lizard All the best for your health mate and fingers crossed you have positive results!

Wow your fleet orbat is marvellous! Fair play to the effort and level of detail in that and same for your 21st expedition fleet too! Many many kudos!

Thank you so much.

Orbat is very cool and in the world of 30K/40K isn't too much really just right!?

Appreciate that, thank you. You're absolutely right!

@Galron I think Orbat stands for Order of Battle?

I definitely agree with what you wrote too. GW and numbers have never been accurate and the lore is full of crazy shenanigans.

What did you use to create that @Hungry Nostraman Lizard

Yes, Order of Battle is what an orbat is, it shows a make up of a military force! I made it in photoshop, lots of tinkering and figuring things out as I went. I used resources like the old BFG rulebook for the silhouettes that I then tinkered and worked with, splicing and making some unique combinations (like the Arrival of Judgement is a custom ship design that doesn't exist in established lore). Everything else is sort of 'stock' hulls that fans would be familiar with. An astartes strike cruiser is an astartes strike cruiser is an astar...

Thank you!

Here is my first model I'm sharing with you all. This was a refurbishing project I started in the earlier months of 2024, taking a techmarine I had made for my (then) budding Night Lords force. One of the first character models I made, I wanted to give him a face lift. Let me know what you folks think!

Thanks so much Calgar101!

Appreciate that, now to use him in a game (eventually)! I've also been slowly working on a five man Night Raptor squad, all with dual lightning claws. Here are the first two, using tortuga bay as the bodies, and largely printed arms/jumppacks/heads. I'm a big fan of this 'turbine' looking jumppack. It's huge, it's mean, it's gothic looking. The coolest  jumppack ever made .

I'm approaching these one by one rather than an assembly line.

I don’t think it’s you. He said they were third part bits so I’m guessing that’s by design.

Made the mistake of looking on GWs site for some of the old head upgrade sets, anything that isn't a Mk6 head or shoulder pads seems to either be gone or marked as sold out online with no reminder email button. I am frustrated and annoyed as well as depressed. All those helmets were cool as hell and instead we got some hit and miss mk6 heads. Thanks GW...

Yeah, it's depressing how much we've lost over the years. I have a 2017/2018 Forgeworld catalogue I keep in my army carrying case. Sometimes I'll flip through it to gaze at the cool things we've lost.

I'm with you, the mark VI heads are largely a let down. Some of the better ones are the Dark Angel, Death Guard, and Imperial Fist ones. The ones that look like mark VI the least.

I did another three Night Raptors. Here they are, with group pics of all 5 coming later.

I've wrapped up the Night Raptor Squad. Love the weight the tortuga bodies have. These guys have a meatiness to them that implies Hammer of Wrath.

Next up is a very cool Terminator armed Praetor for my Dark Angels, using the base of the plastic Cataphractii Praetor from the old Betrayal at Calth/Heroes of the Heresy as a suggestion.

I require council from my fellow heresy hobbyists.

I'm planning on a few 500 point patrol forces (long story short, found some fan rules for 2.0 based on the old 4th ed combat patrol and edited it to suit my group better) and I'm looking over my Iron Warriors one which has a recon squad. Now I plan on using this recon squad as more of a raiding/recon-in-force squad to take point rather than hit from afar.

I currently have them (on paper) 5 strong with bayonets but I've thought about giving them shotguns (would just need to source them) and I plan on using some of the new mark 3 as a base for them, but I have no idea where to start with making them look more like raiders/recons, I've tried the venerable Chaplain Kage's tissue and PVA capes but the tissues I have are a bit naff and the results aren't that great. I'm also not that skilled with greenstuff so that's out as well.

So how would I go about making them look more like recon/raiders over just dudes with boltguns and a stabby bit on the end?

i used Genestealer back packs, guard bags, nightvision from the old scouts kit. Lots of pouches and bombs etc to make my mk3 recons.

@No Foes Remain I agree with @sarabando that adding lots of extra gear really helps recons look the part.

@Hungry Nostraman Lizard Ace work on those Raptors, I agree that the Tortuga bodies give them a real brutish weight.

@Mana LOVE that Nightlord, I think the skulls look great, but adding the spike out the top would make them even better,

I’d probably just go with the shotguns because they look like trench raiders then. As above, extra gear is great for both, and scopes/silencers could work for recons if you do stick with bolt guns.

By coincidence I just finished a recon squad myself, with Kage's tissue capes and a little extra gear/scopes.

Once again, the iphone hates a dull photo, and has made that red (and everything really) a lot brighter than reality.  More wittering in the spoiler.

Spoiler

The capes were quite a pain. You can see from the back that sometimes I got some nice folds like real cloth, but sometimes not.  And the close-up below shows they don't bear too close a scrutiny.  I'm going to do a similar squad of recons/seekers for my World Eaters, but I may just give the remaining models rolled-up cloaks. As usual, I find it easier to paint models for my son's army, because I don't get so precious and indecisive.  That's why they are Word Bearers, and that's why I gave them low-value bolters with bayonets (some bayonets are carried and not yet fixed). I guess if he really whines we could count those two with scopes as nemesis bolters.  And that's also why they don't have any edge highlighting. Still took me ages and cost a silly amount on ebay bits.

This close-up to show I painted the augry scanner, it's meant to look like lines of code or data streaming across the screen. I couldn't get the brush in to do any OSL.

Very very nice unit!

I just make this fella. It's my idea of a Consul Mortificator. Although they are a sub-sect of the Techmarines, I imagine them more as Chaplains-like Consul: Sinister, fanatics and a bit obsessed with death and mortality.

And the miniature of Primaris Chaplain it's perfect for this. I really like this miniature, one of my favourite in the Primaris range,so I made very few and little changes. Simple but effective, I think.
