Some assault squads and Destroyers in the making. But still I'm not motivated to paint...nothing moves me to do anything. At least, I assembled those fellas.

Finally bought the third party volkite breacher parts I’ve had in the Etsy basket for a while. Got these to go with the leftover Forge World MK IV armour I have in my box of cool stuff.

First model built up - darn these are fiddly to assemble … couldn’t get this one to line up right with the shield but I think I’m happy with the pose as a slight variation. I’m sure I’ll get the others to work.

Also wondering if I need to shift the Iron Warriors badge to the other side … all my others are on this side but I’m not sure about how it is right into the shield like that.

OK, this squad has been a headache, but it’s built. I realised that the breacher kit has two different sets of arms - one set for the classic gun-over-the-shield poses, and another set for alternative poses. Seems I had mixed up the arms on the first guy, so that’s why it wouldn’t line up right.

Got the measure of them now:

IMG_4817.thumb.jpeg.87a038f439c43e870239fba24429e3d0.jpeg

Next issue though was that I had five pairs of Forge World legs left over but that wasn’t enough for a full squad, so I’d ordered another five printed ones from eBay. When I got them out for this project though, turns out they are a lot bigger than the FW ones, so they made half the squad taller than the other half. Take a look:

IMG_4816.thumb.jpeg.0017708819f37d3bd941eb9d08f9ecb3.jpeg

It’s a chunky difference, made particularly stark by the crazy skinny FW legs. They make them almost as tall as a primaris marine. Almost enough to make me want to scrap them and start again. However, they do look pretty decent, especially when the belt pouches are added to fill out the waist:

IMG_4818.thumb.jpeg.7356cdc963177009c8c549a4fc4d8c1f.jpegIMG_4819.thumb.jpeg.9342e11bb1d516e55513ae46a36f0d04.jpeg

My daughter, being the artist she is, convinced me that they would look fine if I lined the taller ones up at the back of the squad and put the leader on his own at the front instead of in the same row with the shorter ones.

Here’s the squad in all its glory:

IMG_4814.thumb.jpeg.d9dac923ae210934055edbb0de1c6d10.jpeg

Looking at them from above the difference doesn’t seem so stark either, and on the table that’s the angle I’ll see them from too, so hopefully once they’re all painted the same I might not see it so much.

Bit of a photo dump but haven't posted for a while.

Starting with an assault squad.

IMG20250207080220.thumb.jpg.e06c5cb3df677c03df961b637a01ce3a.jpg

A Dawnbreaker squad.

IMG20250207075853.thumb.jpg.21a50a40d1a9e9d115f6f73e6686cf55.jpg

And a Kratos.

Essentially finished these but I am waiting for the decal sheet to come back into stock to add those last details.

Next on the Blood Angels job list is some Angel's Tears.

What up fraters! It's been a hot minute! Been battling some form of bio-scrap code for the better part of 2024, but I'm through the worst of it now (Pantheon willing), and it's given me a drive for all things that burns hotter than the sons of Nocturnes' choice weaponry. I've started on a project that will probably consume me for the next while - and it's a doozy.

I've gotten the itch to make an Istvaan III (and or generic palace city) terrain board, utilizing one tile I started on for a trench board years ago, never got around to it - but you can see in one of the photos where the original trench lines were supposed to go. However, I've been going at establishing terrain on it as fast as the Iron Warriors erect fortifications. I'm learning a lot about foam, various types of glues and so on. The last few photos are also me doing some 'tests' with a squad, to see how things might naturally occur during play. Let me know what y'all think! Oh and if you have any suggestions for little doo-dads to place. I have some 3rd party tarantulas turrets I will be placing as knocked out emplacements, some banners, dead astartes strewn about in some choice locations. I'm going to be consulting the old Visions of Heresy and The Art of the Horus Heresy book (the one with the renewed False Gods by Neil Roberts!) for further inspiration.

Looking good. Sand bag piles will always look good in a ruined city. The old City fight codex was good for ideas too if you can get a look.

Or take your inspiration from Inferno and put some random tourists in there.

Oh that's looking ace already @Hungry Nostraman Lizard. Tarantula batteries will be a nice addition.

Love the yellow plate on the Kratos @Corswain. Such a cool tank overall.

@TheArtilleryman those troopers look ace with the printed legs. I really dig the crisp detail of FW sculpts, but the legs really do look weedy, especially for the MKIV. I guess the squad will still look fine with the mixed legs, it's natural that there would be some variation in physique between marines, they're from human stock after all!

Finally finished my Cerberus, in my Alpha legion Recon Company colours. Clearly the camo net justifies the inclusion of a super heavy tank in a recon list…..

Stunning. Love the netting, that’s really cool.

The netting is very cool. It works for sure. Can I inquire as to where you got it, and or how you made it?

Added white plaster to the boards, took a few days to dry. This has the added affect of weight, so the boards don't easily jostle, and also building up the layers of ruin/dirt/debris. I've since added more sand, rock, grit on top of the white plaster, but similarly that'll take a day to dry before new pictures.

There's a few more pictures up on my hobby Instagram, plus a video reel show casing the two tiles of the board all together, set to some choicy music by Legio Symphonica, for those curious it's Massgravestudios.

Those are fun. I love predators. You got a solid backline and some rushing forward predators. Any plans to round out the squadrons to three apiece?

Eventually, but I still have 4 Scorpius and 4 Sicarans left to assemble and build, which takes some time, especially since I'm mixing the old resin models and parts with the new plastic kits.

Finished the breacher squad:

IMG_4894.thumb.jpeg.7e2883c1b7c762e5ed37d6c0b3d92b74.jpeg

The difference in size between those models with the FW legs and those with the printed ones is noticeable but I don’t feel like it’s too bad.

Volkites seem to be becoming a bit of a theme in this force, what with these and the choom support squad. It’s nice to have something different from bolters in a line troops choice I think.

These guys will form a close range fireblob with the praetor and ride in the proteus (which I’m running as a carrier, not an explorator).

That board is looking great!

The camo net is an AK interactive mimetic net. There’s a great tutorial video, basically you cut to size, stretch it, then AB some varying tones (I just did a bit of black). Attach the edges with double sided tape. Then soak it in matte PVA (woodland scenics) and move it around until you’re happy. Make sure the models sealed properly first so you can remove PVA tide marks.

Hey everyone,

quick question for all those auxilia players out there. I’m considering doing a tank heavy SA force using the Solar cohort rules to take Veletaris in Aurox as troops.

The problem is, the new velataris don’t look great. The helmets are way off, the weapon poses are odd and the shoulder pads don’t integrate with the body armour and look way too thick (take a look at the GW models and you’ll see armour pads with a massive gap between the pad and the armour).

On the other hand, the lasrifle sections are superb. So I’m contemplating two options:

1) use the lasrifle section as a base model, purchase Veletaris volkites online and combine the two. This will work out marginally more expensive overall.

2) using the Veletaris section, remodelling the shoulder pads but changing out the heads.

What do you guys think?

A word of warning, the Veletaris arms don't work that well with the standard bodies. The standard lasrifle chestpiece sticks a bit far out for the volkite arms, I managed to get some bits of sprue and push the arms a little wider but it was a bit of a pain to do.

Edit: Added images.

L-R: Standard Lasrifle, Command Squad Captain with volkite, Marshall with pistol and sword, Command Vox with Volkite.

And the whole unit.

No worries, some arms are easier than others. Basically the ones with the volkite far from the chest, the rest are really hard to make work but with enough time, poly cement, spure bits and swearing it's possible.

Thanks, I do plan to go back to my Headhunters. Just want to try to get some more of my SoH done in what spare time I have, which isn't much as of late.
