BadgersinHills
@Pacific81 I love the metallic blue. Have ordered some Obsidian Black but it still hasn't shipped and local stores don't seem to stock it sadly, can't wait to try it out. Corswain
@Pacific81Looks excellent. Are you brushing or airbrushing? I just picked up one of the greens but I've got some work to do first and I'm curious to see how it goes with both. I just picked up one of the greens but I've got some work to do first and I'm curious to see how it goes with both. Just brushing with them, honestly I have never used such a smooth metallic. For infantry I used (Vallejo's recommended) black undercoat > base > shade > base + light > final light. You can use some variation of these, some compress it to just base > shade > light depending on the colour. I haven't tried the greens yet but am thinking of using the obsidian black for Destroyers. Honestly you are in for a very pleasant surprise with these paints Corswain 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/363129-30k-hobby-chat/page/175/#findComment-6154936 Share on other sites

Shard of Magnus
Wow. I am really starting to reconsider my painting approach after seeing the results you’ve gotten with the blue. Metallic color schemes are my favorite but getting it to look good on larger kits like vehicles has been a hurdle I haven’t wanted to tackle. This might be a solution to my headache! Pacific81
Sorry a bit of spam as I have been flat out getting the army ready for an escalation league (starting at 750pts). Have finished an assault squad and medic. The assault squad is pretty standard (it is a really good kit!). I added some 3rd party heads and special weapons from that kit. The Apothecary is 3rd party bits on a MKIII standard trooper. I'm trying to keep costs down by not buying FW resin, instead using the MKIII command squad for character bits. Pacific81
That is some very impressive work @sarabando! I have reached a 750pt benchmark for an escalation league, of early/mid Crusade-era War Hounds. sarabando
posted some close ups of my EC in their thread in the hall of honour. Got a saturnine dread to build for them which im going to find some big ol sonic cannons to arm him with. Then i need to get my hands on that really old 5th ed metal venerable dread to turn into a contemptor. LameBeard
Ok friends, I know we’ve been through this before, but just jog my memory on shoulder pad symbols: is there a recognised one for recons, seekers or (flamer) support squads? I was doing decals all afternoon and accidentally put the heavy support inverted V on a couple of the flamer squad. Ironically the only two that went on nice and they won’t come off and that’s annoying me. But maybe flamer squads should have that upside down V anyway? More in hope than expectation. Corswain
I always thought the inverted V was heavy support but I just had a look in Hereticus and Night Lords, World Waters and Death Guard all use it for "fire support." Different Legions will do things differently so I always say do what you want and come up with an excuse afterwards. The excuse can be they are world eaters and traded in their heavy weapons for flamers to get closer to the enemy! It’ll still annoy me - I wanted to save the decals for a different legion. Pacific81
If anyone is after a cheaper (£80+ cheaper!) Termite miniature to use instead of the official model, found this on Etsy. Perhaps a tiny bit smaller, this is a good alternative to the Mantic Veer-myn tunneler (which is also around the £25 mark) Etsy dwarf tunneller sarabando, Agramar_The_Luna_Wolf and Gorgoff 1 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/363129-30k-hobby-chat/page/175/#findComment-6157765 Share on other sites
SvenIronhand
Working on Gorgons still. Too cold to prime, so just assembling for now. I know Storm Bolters aren't invented 'yet', so just pretend the ones these guys are holding are finicky prototypes . As for the Hammerbearer, he's got a combi-melta kitbash. Doobles57
Recently been building out an allied Mechanicum force for my Ultras. A pair of Castellax and some Thallax are the starting point. Pacific81
Those look great @Doobles57. I like the Ultramarine colours added in to help tie it to the other force. I have finished some War Hound Saturnine. Reading the new lore on these, they were present at the start of the Crusade and then returned again right at the end before the Heresy thanks to Vulcan's efforts, so as an early/mid Crusade force it seemed fair to include them. Now taking a break as I have hit 1k points and to paint up some 6mm pig objectives for the Epic Charity event in April, but hopefully back with more soon! LameBeard
Lovely stuff here - still the best thread on this forum. I have finally returned to my neglected World Eaters. Not much to show, because I've been batch-transferring some shoulder pads, but maybe it'll all come together one day. Also decided to go back to the idea of World Eater recons and seekers - although Messrs Shotgun might get promoted to veterans, I don't have enough for a full squad. Corswain
Nice work. You've done a good job on the face but I think it's one of FW's poorer sculpts so I think the helmet is a good idea and looks great. Also how did you find the dirty down rust? I recently bought some and I love it but I know not everyone does.
