Nice work. You've done a good job on the face but I think it's one of FW's poorer sculpts so I think the helmet is a good idea and looks great.

Also how did you find the dirty down rust? I recently bought some and I love it but I know not everyone does.

Thanks. Yeah I'm not a big fan of that face sculpt either.

I was impressed with the rust. I at first regretted it as I did a nice job on the tracks then went a little over the top with the dirty down but the effect looks great.

Yeah, it's easy to over or under do the rust but I think it's worth it.

This years CtA is going to be primarily Heresy for me, I think. I have two projects, (loyalist) Iron Warriors and Word Bearers and I think one or both are going to be usable for 40K as well. The Word Bearers definitely, as I'm going for a force that is already far down the path to corruption; The Iron Warriors too, but it might not really make sense to try and do a combo feature, so it might just end up being two separate armies.

I have an ungodly amount of heresy marines and chaos marines lying around unassembled, so I was wondering if anyone here have had experience with kitbashing these and might have some tips and pointers to share?

In any case, I probably won't actually be playing with my HH armies, as I don't like 3rd ed. and I don't have anyone to play with locally. Still, I've been wanting to do a Heresy army (or two, or three...) for years, so it might as well be now :smile:

There are some possibilities with the Chaos Marines.

Can't find the pictures right now but there IS one marine holding his bolter in one hand and the ammo belt in the other one. You can also use another belt fed bolter where the ammo belt is fed from the hip.

There are pictures in this thread but I couldn't find them.

Edit:

Found one

I have done a few kitbashes, putting together chaos marines and heresy models. I made some Fallen for 40k that were rather forgiving (no pun intended) with just smashing bits together.

My Heresy Word Bearers have been slower though - it was a pain getting the chaos torso front on the heresy body, I should have gone with whole torso. But then you still have the problem of loincloth mismatching legs. This sergeant was a pain - I want him to have the feel of “just beginning to dabble” in the dark arts.

Turning the chaos up a notch and taking legs AND torso (the way @Pacific81 has done several Sons of Horus) might be the way to go. And then balancing things out with heresy era shoulder pads, helmet and backpack.

I find the chaos backpacks a bit too much for 30k, but I have seen @Kizzdougs use them to very good effect - his ‘March of the Legions’ imperial fist springs to mind.

I should have another go. I have a few Rubric bits I could try too. With the chaos/heresy leftovers, maybe I  could make 40k Corsairs instead of Fallen?

Another picture

I also take forever with HH. Around the end of November I got a rhino and just finished painting it last week, in fact it's the first time in a long time that I paint something that I bought "recently". Normally everything goes to the back of the painting queue :whistling:.

I made the damage to the tank too big, in a sense it looks like comic book style damage, I have to paint a land raider next, that one I'm gonna do the damage smaller. I like it anyway.

And since I had to paint the rhino, I also assembled a night raptor for my planned squad, the test model:

Thanks! after this I'm gonna prepare the other 9 night raptors, then the land raider, then maybe a cataphractii command squad (The old ones, I like them more) or a praetorian command squad with all combat shields, three power fists and 2 power axes, then the spartan, etc, etc. I think maybe I'll be finished when HH 5th edition launches :facepalm::laugh:

With the night raptor it was the first time i pinned some resin parts to plastic, it was actually and eye opening experience to me. I don't work with resin much.

WiP of my Consul-Mortificator, would appreciate some advice on his servo-arm. I at first kitbashed one from the plastic Iron-Priest but it got too tall and pulled the eye from the Corposant Stave.

I think a more relaxed pose fir the servo-arm and would appreciate any suggestions.

Also, I'm seeing Mortificators as basically Astartes Necromancers and I hope the end product will portray that, hence the bone torso from the Terminator Chaplain.

EDIT:

Update!

large.20260318_221142.jpg.5a43b5e20c737093d813b6443ad3e0b8.jpg

Went with a Servo-Arm from one the forge world scyllax models I've had lying around waiting for just the right time to use, also added some detail to his chest with a reliquary from a primaris kit, as well as getting him a belt buckle from a pteraxii wing pack.

WIP of my Warsmith for my Count-As Primaris force, he'll be using the rules for the Gravis Captain with a Boltstorm Gauntlet, represented by the modified Phobos Combi-Bolter and the Servo-Arms, and a Relic Chainsword, based around the old Mk.II/III Heavy Chainsword.

Also I now realise he needs a plume for his helmet to properly show he's the boss-man...

@lokkorex

Dude, both look awesome. Great Work!

@sarabando

I really like that spear throwing marine. Very cool idea! Those yellow bits are printed?

I'm currently building my Fire Raptor. Not much to see yet. :-D

Only the right side of the fuselage has been glued. Since it's going to be heavy I drilled through the bottom to be able to slide that pylon in and out. Saw that in a video and thought that this is a pretty good idea.
