Hi everyone,

Some times ago I acquired a lot of bits, included were some Cataphractii parts. Of course, there were no legs, nor shoulder pads. Hence this request.

Regarding the legs, I haven't found any on bits sites so far, so I'm looking into alternatives. What would be good ones? Knowing that my last resort option would be to convert 40k terminator legs.

Regarding the shoulder pads, I have some MaxMini large shoulder pads that could fit the bill. However, they don't fit with the cataphractii arms, the shoulders being too large to accommodate the inverted U-shape of the shoulder pads.

So before I start butchering the shoulders to try to make the shoulder pads fit, I was wondering if someone had already done this and what pieces of advice could be offered. Comparison or wip pics most welcome of course.

Many thanks in advance.

Cheers and stay safe,

I might be able to help you out. I used my Cataphractii for True Scaling marines, so I'm pretty sure I've got spare shoulder pads about. I've also got a 3D printer, and have printed off not-Cataphractii legs.

What army are you running ?

This, and what kind of unit are you running? Shapeways has shoulders so if you had a specific legion in mind you may as well get some fancy ones that aren't terribly expensive.  https://www.shapeways.com/marketplace/games/tabletop-wargaming?tag=cataphractii

Also I know you can do terrain but missing legs aren't the end of the world if you can greenstuff robes and it's appropriate for your legion, that's something I wanted to figure out how to do at some point with my Inquisition should they ever get a real book.  For crusaders I have some old Empire greatsword infantry with cool arms and zweihander swords but their legs are comically short, my plan was to use plastic rod as stilts and greenstuff robes around them that kind flow onto the ground which would build them up and make them look a little more grimdarky.  If robes were appropriate for your legion (like Dark Angels or Death Guard) you'd be able to build them up a little more truescale and not need legs at all. I bought a huge roll of greenstuff that's just languishing in a box.

I have a full set of FW Cataphractii Arms and shoulder pads on sprue, they're yours for the postage if you want them

I truly appreciate! Thanks a lot Grotsmasha. I'll pm you for the logistical details.

Also thanks for the links guys!

So far, no specific army in mind. There are so many cool ones, it is hard to decide. This said I might lean towards the Warmaster's side :biggrin.: At the moment, it is more a model building exercice than actually choosing a specific army.

For the legs, I can probably convert the spare 40k terminator legs I have. A good opportunity to start using greenstuff. Also, I found this tutorial a while ago http://fromthewarp.blogspot.com/2012/11/cataphractii-terminator-armour.html there are quite a few interesting articles there. He uses the MaxMini shoulder pads but on regular 40k terminator, arms are not as large as the cataphractii ones and the torso is also different.

Tabards or robes to mask the potential mistakes is definitely an excellent idea.
