Graymane
Hello folks, Some of you may be aware of my spacewolf successor project the Draugrbjorn or Ghost Bears. I want an impressive sized teminator lord to represent the last of the old wolves that still survive in the new Draugrbjorn (mostly primaris) chapter. One of Jotun Bearclaw's wolf guard and now veteran commander (not sure if chapter master yet). I have chosen then rather impressive new Abbadon the despoiler as a base and have started mocking it up... I was originally thinking of using the oversized claw as a link to 'Jotun Bearclaw', but im not sure about it. I have then trimmed off the chaos bits and swapped out a few others. I quite like the axe (i know the hand is the wrong way round at the moment) and am thinking of an oversized chain fist as the 'bears claw' instead of the lightning claw. Head is also a place holder: What do you think? Swarbie8D
It’s a great idea and I’m really interested to see how it looks when it’s done! I agree the lightning claw is waaaaay too big, and honestly the chainfist’s blade looks a bit too long as well. I love the axe but it looks unbalanced; maybe when you switch out the hand have him hold it higher up the haft so it looks more like he’s holding it rather than swinging it one-handed. Are you going to switch out the dead Primaris Marine on the base? Or leave it and paint it as a renegade primaris? Yosef Hausakluif
The chainfist is a cool concept and as Swarbie8D said maybe just shorten it up proportionally a little bit, but not too much as the reach for this size model and effectiveness of the weapon will be key. As for the axe, what about a massive ranged weapon like an oversized assault Bolter of some sort from the primaris inceptors or a large storm siege shield from the plastic imperial guard ogryns? Looking forward to your progress as your recent dred turned out stellar! CaptainStabby
Maybe clip the frost blades down and attach them for your lightning/chain claw on the right hand, so you arent using the full dreadnought sized housing. Might buy you some real estate. Graymane
Hello folks, So, a bit of an update. I have been trialling some bits. I like the chainfist idea and am going to bracket it with the bolters as a 'counts-as' storm bolter. The questions are what blade to use on the chain fist, which axe to use and in which combination? The choices are... The long blade and terminator axe (yes, i know the hand is backwards) : or the short blade and wulfen axe... And here he is with a test fit cloak.... Hes a big bugger. If you're interested, here is a size comparison between him and an infiltrator. Another question is which head to use? The masked one was a place holder but its kind of growing on me... Well that's it so far. Let me know what you think! :) Cheers, GM Ryltar Thamior, PowerHungryMonkey and BadgersinHills 3 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/363400-abaddon-to-draugrbjorn-wolflord-the-journey-is-complete/#findComment-5512043 Share on other sites
Swarbie8D
Ooh I am a big fan of the short blade and the Wulfen axe! Sandalphon
Yep second that both substitutes work much better (altho I had a soft spot for jumbo claw) - cloak is great too! I feel the head should have some degree of facial or head hair being a wolf lord and all.. rebreather looks cool but just not particularly feral / savage for an SW successor? Really coming together! PowerHungryMonkey
I said it on FB but definatly found the sweet-spot with the short chainfist blade and Wulfen axe. Not only does the double blade add a bit of bulk to that side but the position of the grip on the haft makes it look a lot more commanding and less unwieldy than the Wolf Guard axe. Also, while the cloak is totally cool and perfect for the Space Bear (wolf) feel, I kinda like him without it. Not that I can talk; I'll be making my Wolf Lord from Abby too and he'll definatly have a cloak. Now, get some dead bears and give him some bling! Graymane
Hello folks, Apologies for the long absence! So, numerous updates are due and many pics to follow. I hope you enjoy. So, head wise, i went for Abbadon snarling, and greenstuffed some hair, a beard and an eyepatch... Which, generally, i think came out rather well. I also added some further bear iconography to his belt and carapace and furred up the loincloth, which i also shortened... I wanted an embossed shoulderpad, similar to the wolf one found on the old Ragnar model and so made one using the bear head helmets from Puppetswar. They are a little small for marines but work in other ways. I also wanted him to have a suitable bear skin cape and started to construct one fro Abbaddons cape, some wolf cape bits, chain and a buttload of greenstuff. First of all was the basic layer to get the shape... A further layer was then added and i added fangs and bulk to a wolf's head and rounded the ears to make it bear like... More to come shortly. Let me know what you think so far! :) Cheers, GM Exarch Telepse-Ehto, Dr_Ruminahui, Elzender and 4 others 7 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/363400-abaddon-to-draugrbjorn-wolflord-the-journey-is-complete/#findComment-5600892 Share on other sites
Graymane
Hello, So, the next exciting episode... I was liking how the model was coming together, but was not a fan of the big hole in the back of his cloak, so decided to sling a shield over it. These were my initial ideas... After further review and some feed back, the runed shield was winning so i went with that but wanted something to making it more bear-ish. So i made a boss for the shield from one of my bears head emblems and some green stuff... Which came up rather nicely once painted.... I also replaced the power feeds with guitar wire and the cabling on the chest with chopped platic rod to resemble armoured conduits... At this point its all coming together nicely. More to come soon. Graymane
So, I thought the leader of the Draugrbjorn should have a suitably brutal base. And as my two biggest rivals in my gaming group are a Khorn player and a dark angels player, i thought that they might be good candidates for decorating said base... Hope you like it. More to come soon... Yosef Hausakluif
BRUTAL! Really appreciate your approach and editing as you go. It’s really paying off as you go and the decisions you’re making for the model. Bjorn Firewalker
Excellent work on Haakon. I appreciate the bloodstains and the dismembered Khorne Berserker decorating his base. Is "Great Bear" a Chapter-specific title for the Draugrbjorn Chapter Master, the way "Great Wolf" is for the Space Wolves?
