Hello all, I was looking at our litanies again and was wondering if anyone has tried a leadership debuff based build.

Vow of retribution reduces enemy LD by -2, Fear made manifest WL trait further reduces LD by -1.

We can add the crusaders helm or fervent acclimation for more range. Fervent may also apply to the reiver unit -1 aura if I understand it correctly, making it go from 3" to 6".

Under perfect conditions being 3 reiver squads, vow of retribution, fear made manifest = -6 ld at 6" range.

Plink away at an infantry unit or two and watch the rest run away.

Thoughts?

Focussing on LD shenanigans isn't really worth it. Chaos armies can easily throw around modifiers of -5 or higher but there's a reason why you don't see such armies being popular. Units are simply too small to really be bothered by morale checks and there are too many ways to mitigate them. One of those even build into the core rules as 2CP Stratagem.

and some armies doesnt need that like tank/vehicle focussed armies, fearless armies like tyranids and Abaddon + Cultists ...

the 2 worst mechanics are seen very often in our current book:

- leadership modifier

- "fight first" mechanics

Until there is some bigger advantage in taking larger units over MSU, like a CP bonus for larger troop units for instance, leadership debuffing is pretty niche. Which is sad really.

May be useful against Orks though? They are one of the few armies which have a reason to play larger units.

The LD of Ork units also equals the number of models in that unit.
