Hi all,

after a long sabbatical from the hobby I have decided to get back into it! I love space wolves and have dug out a half completed assault on black reach to help me get started again, and plan to convert the captain into a rune priest.

I have removed all ultramarine style icons such as the purity seals off the cloak, removed his head to add in a more Viking looking one, going to add some brass runes to the armour, and plan to add some fur to all the loin cloths and cloak etc however I am stuck on what weapons to give him.
My first thoughts were to give him an axe and a wolf claw, however after doing some research I haven’t seen anyone equip a rune priest with a wolf claw, having looked around at other people’s models, njal stormcaller and the rp model from gw it seems the most common would be a rune staff/axe/sword and plasma pistol, however I don’t think it would look as cool, and although I don’t play the game or have any interest in starting I’ve always liked to kept things ‘realistic’. As if someone who plays the game would be able to use my model in a game.

I think my question is what is the preferred loadout for a rune priest, and would a wolf claw be acceptable?

Any feedback welcome :biggrin.:

First of all welcome back! As to the question, the reason you don’t see it is because Rune Priests aren’t given the option of wolf claws in the game. In terms of “realism” though, if you don’t plan on playing (or do with accepting folk) I don’t see any reason why you shouldn’t make something YOU think is awesome.

Just make sure to share it here ;)

So I have a character that I created for a campaign a ways back call Jorin Frosttalon. He was a terminator rune priest and his weapon loadout was a combimelta and the Rune Claw, a wolf claw fashioned in the same manner as runic weapons. I still use the mini I just run it as a runic axe (stats are almost identical to a wolf claw) and in non competitive fluffy games I give him reroll to wound a la wolf claws.

As for loadout, I like a jump pack and the runic axe from a more competitive angle. Strength 5 is a nice sweet spot getting most infantry on 3a and really never wounding on 6a as to my knowledge there is no toughness 10 model. And the mobility of the jump pack can help get your powers where you need them.
