The space marine vindicator. Such a cool, but short ranged tank/monster destroyer. For the longest time, I didn't concern myself with it, due to such short range. However, I came up with a viable way to play it.

I chose the chapter tactic long-range marksmen. I moved it forward, with a jump pack chapter master near it. I activated the big guns never tire stratagem, and it destroyed a chaos land raider with relative ease. Although, this is the third time in a row I've fielded it, and this is the first time it got to fire. For 125 points, I'm thinking of getting 2 more.

So my brothers, what are your thoughts on it? Is it viable to field 3 of them?

Vindicators (and other demolisher vehicles) are better with the recent round of changes up to a straight D6 shots. The D3 was poor such that even the die hard tread heads were leaving them on the shelf. A sad thing especially for those of us with fond memories of past glories...

I'm not sure they're worth an escorting Chapter Master directly, but if he's in the area a good recipient and if you have three all the more so. That said this would be a fair number of points on them, I've always stuck with two as a happy middle ground. They have the potential to do good work which is why they can miss out sometimes; a mix of shorter range at a higher target priority can do that :sad.:

I think they need the right army/support to work best, though arguably this is true of anything. Some nearby infantry to protect it from combat helps (and they'd like the cannon's support, too), as well as providing some anti-infantry work so the Vindicator can concentrate on the heavier targets. One of those units where they can really shine with good opportunity but may struggle otherwise I think.

I do want to get mine on the table top more so I'll be interested in hearing more also :smile.:

Absolutely. I will note that the chapter master was there for a lot more than just for my vindicator. Considering that it would be a waste of 2 CP if he helped only a single vindicator. Lol. I fielded a land raider redeemer, a vanguard

veteran squad, and 2 assault marine squads up the board with my tanks and their liege Lord. With a land speeder, which was decent. Just brought it as a cheap last fast attack option, but with the re-rolls, it actually did some respectable damage.

I do think 2 is a better idea, you're most definitely right on that I think. At T8, it should ensure one of them survives to do damage. Or if they both get destroyed, I can easily assume that in such a case, the rest of my vehicles will be largely unharmed. And if I go first....well. Lol. I already saw how that worked out for one vindicator firing on a land raider.

But the infantry idea is very good, and something I did consider. I brought assault marines with their chapter master near just so that I did have enough marines around to protect my vindicator and land raider from enemy charges. It did work out pretty well, I think. Most of my assault marines died just as I thought they would, as did my vanguard veterans, but my land raider redeemer practically won me the game. Those flamestorm cannons are OP?? Chaos terminators were disappearing to it. Not to mention, I had my devastator centurions in there.
