So I've been experimenting online with running Wulfen unarmed. Mostly because I have 15 old metal Wulfen that I can't bear to convert, the nostalgia is too strong. :D So I'm running them basic, in a 10 man squad, and my results are fascinating.

List for reference: 1500pt

MC Claw Lord, Jump Wolf Priest, Njall, Phobos RP

10 Wulfen

10 incursors, 2x5 TH Intercessors

6 Bolt Inceptors

2 Las Eliminators

This is based around an infantry only board control list with a TON of Phobos units, so results may vary. But I've been very surprised at how good they are! It's based entirely on the SW litany of +1dmg against vehicles and monsters, but boy does it do work with the huge weight of attacks. The large squad eats board space up and is basically my Screen and Anti Screen rolled into one. Supported with the Belt of Russ and the Wolf Priest, they are a tough unit to counter.

Defensively, the lack of 3++ hurts, but that 5+ FNP really screws with opponents who believe the unit "easy" to kill. Plasma and other 2dmg shots are particularly neutered hard by that. Stack other defense buffs, and they are much harder to shift than you think. The mere fact they don't carry weapons screws with target priorities alot, opponents have to over commit to kill them while viewing the squad as not as threatening.

So if you're not a Mechanized fan like me, consider going cheap and plentiful with Wulfen. Anyone else have anything remotely like my experience?

Interesting idea but wouldn't be better to put a single thunder hammer in there anyway? It's not an overinvestmemt but adds a lot of punch.

Perhaps, but it seems like a drop in the bucket for 1 in 10. Ild rather add a few more frost claws to be honest, more attacks with the Litany rerolling wounds are a better offensive option. I might use one for the Storm shield more than the hammer, but I have to pay for both.

Sounds cool.

Naked wulfen are just enough to make paper forget that they are wulfen. And if prodded are more survivable than first thought.

Makes for a cool screener, anti chaff horde unit.

This times 100! People literally forget that they are Wulfen when they don't carry Hammers, like they still fight on death, advance and charge, and provide a charge reroll, lolololol.

What I'm wondering is if I should use 2 10 man units when going to 2000pts....

I think 1 x10 man unit might be the goldilocks.

a naked x10 wulfen I view is kinda the opposite of distraction carnifex.

it'll take more pts in firepower to clear the unit freeing up your army, or it ends up being a screener.

now you could do a x10 naked unit, with a x3 hammers, x1 ga unit.

it will insure the x10 is ignored completely only for the opponent to be reminded, they are still wulfen and they still bite.

Humm, I DO have 15 total. Perhaps 10 Naked and 5 with hammers? Then I could outflank the 5 man unit for Killing and let the 10 man squad be an Elite Screen.
