So i was thinking about this earlier in another thread, but what if Sisters of Silence got a comparable release wave to their fellow Talons the Custodes? What would you include? Im gonna stick to roughly the same boxes as the Custodes but feel free to go wild, based on the 30k lists or whatever, id be interested to see what people would like either as pure Sisters or as Talons integration.

So the Custodes wave for reference:
1 Character Clampack
2 Squad Boxes
1 Jetbike/Vehicle Box

Personally id look to get the following:

1. Knight Centura/Abyssal clampack- Standard modern HQ, fixed pose but with an alternate head and a little weapon flex, say, sword or funky crossbow? Definitely needed to make an army possible, letting you build a Melee leader/beatstick or Ranged Leader/Psyker sniper for a bit of variety.

2. Exo/Terminator suited veterans - We have art of a version of these in the heresy, Go dual kit with the option of big power axes for Oblivion Knights or a new unit with a heavy weapon as heavy support, preferably something AT like an Adrathic weapon, crazy exotic Emperor tech for if targets get out of hand or subborn armour.

3. Pursuer cadre - 3 Sisters with bolt pistol and leash chain melee weapon and 3 Cyber Jackals per sprue, theres a few of these in artwork, and they seem like an iconic choice for hunting down and locking up psykers. Fast attack choice, pop a special weapon flamer/melta option for the hounds. Id like to include Hawks as well but not sure how without having spare hounds, maybe make them an option for characters? Or make the hawk a Sergeant option?

4. Talion/Divider gunship/stealth ship dual kit - Mentioned in fluff a few times, can transport Custodes too in limited numbers maybe? Talion is a gunship with small transport (6 sisters or 3 Custodes?) whilst Divider is pure Sisters and less guns but can carry 12 and maybe has funky DS close to the enemy rules as its sneaky?

Honourable mentions to Sister Jetbikes (Lots of crossover with Custodes ones much as id love them); A Second Yvantine armoured regular/veteran unit with axes, crossbows or grenade launcher options to give more poses and fill out the 30k armoury and having a Proloquor or Silent Judge as further HQ options if they get a bunch ala DG or GSC.

So, anyone else have thoughts?

I dig this. But I really do like the asthetic that the lithe sisters bring. If I was to run pure sisters? Heck yes.

Mixed with Custodes as a talon list? Nah.

Would love to see a heavy support squad (something talons lack completely currently) where the sisters are carrying adrathic or some other really crazy gun. Maybe a new flamer type that concentrates their blank...news further? A ranged way to shut down psychic powers while also causing damage would be snazzy.

I wouldn't mind rules for the Aquisitor for 40k. :D

I think there's going to be a limit on how many characters we'd be able to get...cause character protection would make their aura a lot safer and reliable.

Jetbikes would be great, to help with speed and durability.

There's also going to be Killteam rules in the next White Dwarf, right?

Oh definitely rules for the FW options :)

Yeah i was thinking a bit of both Pure and Talons, i figured like 30k the Veteran units would have a danker blank aura to mess with folks too, but a heavy unit is definitely needed :)

Its a mix, a lot of new releases are getting an interesting range of support characters now that you have relatively fixed armaments and not every character has to be a beat stick, good point on potentially spamming them though, i hadnt thought of that.

Looking forward to the kill team rules, i did my own a while back when we were playing it a lot, but if lockdown continues i can forsee smaller games being a lot easier in things like tabletop simulator!

Call me odd, but wouldn't it make a whole lot of sense for sisters of silence to carry sniper rifles?

They specialize in hunting psykers at extreme range etc?

Ingame, their Bolters basically fill that function, because you can target Psykers with them. But I think it's more that they've been described with a very fixed combat-style.

Bolters to herd the targets, flamers to soften them up, swords to finish them off. Also, I think the lore includes references to a certain feral flair in their fighting style and attire. Snipers wouldn't really go with that.

Is that something in the novels? The best they have in the Forge World Horus Heresy books is that some of the senior ranking members have artificer armour. I haven't read most of the Horus Heresy novels, though.

I'm on the opposite extreme from many others in that I don't want the Sisters of Silence to be a fully capable army. I want them to be dedicated as anti-psykers in the role which they performed during their hey day - anti-infantry. Yes, they should have some capabilities against diverse forces (there's a great picture of some Sisters attacking a Contemptor Dreadnought in The Horus Heresy Collected Visions book). I wouldn't mind them being expanded to the range of options they had during the Great Crusade/Horus Heresy, but perhaps not to those full capabilities. After all, the Sisterhood is still in the process of re-creating itself. With that, I wouldn't mind something here and there to make them different from their previous incarnation, but I'd like to see the core preserved.

Admittedly, GW went with the full army concept for both the Grey Knights and Adeptus Custodes - two other forces that I would have liked to be much more limited. I think that the GW got the Deathwatch about right, and that's about the level of capability I'd like to see the Sisters of Silence get.

The Sisters of Silence would be okay in a Kill Team setting, but there aren't really a lot of psykers for them to go after. I'd love to see them in Kill Team, but it would under-utilize them. I'd definitely have a Sisters of Silence kill team, but I'd really need more psykers for my Sisters kill team to "feel" right.

Their forte, I think, is in augmenting a larger IMPERIUM army, much as they did in the Burning of Prospero where the Space Wolves formed the main force and the Sisters of Silence, Adeptus Custodes, and others were there to provide their special skills where needed. In this, the Sisters of Silence would be a great soup ingredient, but not the main course (in my opinion). YMMV

Brother Tyler, you surprise me.

I would LOVE SoS to be their own faction. I have Zero interest in Custodes, but I love SoS.

I'm really surprised you also thought GK should be more limited. I for one, am ecstatic that all three Chambers Militant are actual armies, especially since the Inquisition was designed in such a way that it can't form an army of its own. Without chambers militant being able to be armies, the Inquisition would be toothless. Again, I know GW dialed down Chambers Militant in this edition, but it is still there, just waiting to be made whole again when the Inquisition get their own dex or become part of Imperial Agents. And I do hope that GW doesn't throw it away.

My attachment to SOS, BTW, comes from the same instinct as wanting thriving Chambers militant; I love that WD SoS dex made explicit the connections between the mandates of the Hereticus and the Sisterhood. They are powerful in the fight against Heresy, and a wise Hereticus Inquisitor could bring them together with the SoB in a Witch Hunting army that make the galaxy burn.

As for a theoretical list, I love the Kharon Pattern Acquisitor. It is hands down the creepiest vehicle I have ever seen. I would love a plastic kit and 40k rules. It is absolutely unique- no other faction has anything remotely like it, and it absolutely solidifies their role with the Blackships.

We are getting KT rules for SoS in WD this month- doubt there will be anything new there, but it's something else we can do with the models that we have.

There are plenty of witches to be Hunted. I mean, the campaign that we're just winding down here is called Psychic Awakening.

What Sairence said mostly, but i could see a Sniper/Scout/Hunter Sisterhood unit as a further wave, it would certainly work well as part of the Talons list too, and could include snipers. I certainly wouldnt put them in a first expansion wave though

Yeah imagine joining a thread just to say your army shouldnt exist :/ There is plenty of room for SoS as a 40k sized force and if im honest it gets tiring having to somehow justify that, if you want a limited force, collect one and let others have their fun. I did have high hopes for SoS in psychic awakening but it seems Talons is all we are getting for now, fingers crossed for the future though! (Thus this thread :D )

Yeah im expecting the Sisters Kill team to be a bit phoned in, but it exists! I hope because i asked about it at a trade show last year but probably not :D They will at least be official, and the smaller scale might allow for the broader use of the Null powers we have seen in novels and such!

The Kharon would be freaking sweet in plastic, im planning some Skorpius conversions once the world levels out again only because its ruinously expensive in resin, id be more than happy to have a resin version, and maybe another build option? I like the idea of a version which ditches the transport bay for a centreline cannon of some description inside the front dilating doors so they look similar buttoned up. Could be some horrible psi-mind wiping cannon type thing?

Damn now i have more conversions to plan :D

That's not what I said, though. In fact, it's the opposite of what I said. I'm a big fan of the Sisters of Silence. Where I differ from many others is in terms of the scope of the faction's capabilities that I want to see.

It's comparable to many modern military special operations units. They are very good at what they do, but they don't come with the full range of military capabilities. In this, they operate with other forces of their nations' militaries in order to synergize.

I see the Sisters of Silence in much the same way.
