Command points.. How many?

So with the plague I'm working on painting what I have, and potentially deciding how to expand my EC more, and so have been writing lists.
Just how many CP do people think is required in the 1500-2000pts range for example? I find trying to go double battalion at these points levels, especially towards the lower end means my doesn't really feel like more then the basic Noise Marines and cultists/chaos marines, but not sure if Battallion and vanguard/spearhead will be enough.

So how much CP do people find Chaos marine armies need?

For tournament play? No idea. 

 

In 'casual-competitive' play, I find that fourteen (Battalion+Battalion+Outrider+Battle-Forged) is almost always enough.

I run at between 10-12 for my Black Legion but I do have a Brigade now plus Abaddon! X)
