HighMarshalAmp
I've assembled my must-have units in the following list. +HQ+ 1x Captain [124 pts]: TH/ SS 1x Lieutenant [71 pts]: Power Fist, Storm Bolter 1x Lieutenant [71 pts]: Power Fist, Storm Bolter +Troops+ 5x Tac Squad [87 pts]: Storm Bolter, Chainsword, Lascannon 5x Tac Squad [87 pts]: Storm Bolter, Chainsword, Lascannon 5x Tac Squad [87 pts]: Storm Bolter, Chainsword, Lascannon +Elites+ 3x Company Veterans [64 pts]: Chainsword, Storm Shields, TH on the Sergeant 5x Company Veterans [96 pts]: Chainsword, Storm Shields, TH on the Sergeant 1x Ironclad Dreadnought [139pts]: Dreadnought Chainfist, 2x Hunter-Killer-Missile, Hurricane Bolter, Ironclad Assault Launchers, Meltagun 1x Ironclad Dreadnought [139pts]: Dreadnought Chainfist, 2x Hunter-Killer-Missile, Hurricane Bolter, Ironclad Assault Launchers, Meltagun 10x Sternguard Vets [149 pts]: SIBs, Power Fist +Heavy Support+ 5x Dev Squad [97 pts]: Armorium Cherub, Storm Bolter, Chainsword, Lascannon 5x Dev Squad [97 pts]: Armorium Cherub, Storm Bolter, Chainsword, Lascannon +Dedicated Transport+ 1x Drop Pod [65 pts]: Storm Bolter 1x Drop Pod [65 pts]: Storm Bolter ++Total [1433 pts]++ Troops, Support and one Lt hang back, the Captain, one Lt and his Company Vet retinue and the Sternguard ride in the pods. I want to add 2 more Dreads, Lascannon Venerables if the points allow for it, else Lascannon Morits if I can prder the parts from FW, else Regular Lascannon Dreads. That puts me around 1700, 1740 with the Venerable Dreads. From here, I'm not sure where to go. I actually like the idea of adding a Leviathan with a Siege Claw and Melta Lance, that would, however, take up all the space that's left. Alternatively, I could add another Sternguard Squad in a third Drop Pod and still have points to spare. In the context of that list, what would you go for? Edit: That got a lot more specific than I had intended... maybe I should have posted this in the Army Lists section instead... sorry Edited May 22, 2020 by HighMarshalAmp Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/364051-salamanders-2000pts-leviathan-worth-taking/ Share on other sites
Hymnblade
300 points for five melta shots and three claw attacks isn't a great deal. Leviathans as melee platforms are really expensive for the number of attacks they get, and losing an attack when they take a gun doesn't help. From a performance standpoint, double guns is the way to go if you run a Levi at all. Who knows how things will change with the new FW books though. SallyForth
I agree with hymnblade, if you’re going to take a leviathan, use it as part of your gunline with storm cannons. There are far cheaper and more effective counter charge melee units, such as Aggresors. Ishagu
The rules for Leviathans are going to be updated very soon in new FW books. Not to mention the new edition coming up. I suggest you hold off to review how things pan out.
