The preview today has me pumped to dig out my chump 6th/early 7th edition Crons and add some stuff. . .like all of the new stuff times 2, at least. If the rumors of the starter set are true I will be getting at least 2. Finally a starter set that I can use both sides of! Good for my Crons and good for my Blood Angel's (see signature for BA and Dark Mech).

Place holder for existing army pictures.

Edit: Step by Step on Page 2!

Alright here are some of my existing force. Notice they are all very clean and crisp. Well my new Crons are going to be pretty much the opposite. . . Grim Dark Horror manifest!

The back story I am going with is that my current force are much (couple million, 10-40? , years or so) newer makes that have been going in and out of hibernation much more often over the millennia. They are just a simple vanguard that has been distracting enemy forces from the main tomb worlds/systems. They are are a scout force collecting data and sending it back to their much more ancient masters still in hibernation. The Grim Dark Crons (GDCs) are truly ancient. Some may have even disappeared with the Silent King Himself but have now returned.

Ok, picture time. Here are some of my existing Crons.

Overlord, currently in command of the vanguard.

His cryptec plus some warriors and immortals. Sometimes I use the old metal warriors as Deathmarks. The old metal immortals are tesla immortals or gauss as they are good stand ins for both.

Their personal guard. I have 10 of each weapon (5 shield guys still need painting).

Regular immortals-cant remember the number. But I use blue rods that I cut to length. I will probably still use the blue rods on the new Crons. But I have to see how they are built first.

Ghost Arch - This way was badly damaged when it encountered a rare space Canine (aka my dog). So I had to cut all the ends off the ribs and the crescent shape rear hull.

Old school Szeras, a lord and 2 destroyers. I got the destroyers buy rummaging through my FLGS bitz box and finding enough random loose parts to make 2. Got them for $5 total!

Not pictured is my Monolith and a Stalker and probably some random other things that I am forgetting about like lots more warriors.

Things on the painting desk (just dusted them off a few min ago!). 5 shield guard, the flying cryptec and a fail cast Orikan.

Most excellent! Always love a blue Necron scheme and these are very crisply painted.

Thanks!

In the big overview picture I counted at least 10 new Necron kits! Oh, my wallet feels a disturbance in the warp already!

I have been browsing MIG enamels (it's what my FLGS carries) to try and figure out my Grim Dark scheme. Here is the scheme I have in mind.

Base coat (airbrush) vallejo Metal Color Airbrush Colors Exhaust Manifold

Very light dry brush of 50/50 Exhaust Manifold and Silver

Blue is Vallejo Game Air Magic Blue

Fill all the blue lines

Paint any white, other blue, and any copper/gold. Copper and gold are also from the Metal Color Airbrush Color line from Vallejo.

Wash entire model with either Mig Dark Streaking Grime, Dark Wash or Black Wash. Not sure on which one I want to use yet.

Wipe off excess and make them grimy and streaky as I go.

Go back and brighten up any blue energy lines as these would be nice and bright because they are powered. I will probably need to practice doing very slight glowy effects in all the recessed lines. Good thing I just got my Badger Patriot Extreme in.

So I was rummaging through some of my hobby pile yesterday and found a bunch of old lasercutcard stuff. Well. . .Its all assembled and I started priming it too. :biggrin.:

Wow, it's like you found boxes of treasure( i know that feeling as i'm currently cleaning out my game storage room and finding heaps of forgotten models and terrain)

Really great army you have and i can't wait to see this terrain painted up

Cheers, Mithril

Here is a pic of an obelisk and some objective markers I finished up years ago. Plan is to paint them up in a similar fashion.

The objective markers are 100% custom except the symbols are the punch outs from the obelisk. The punch outs are super awesome extras from all the Necron terrain. I have bags of them! I made the objectives markers out of card stock and the bases are masonite that I cut out with a hole saw.

The obelisk and all the other necron terrain are from LaserCutCard.

Only thing is, all of the stuff I have is OOP except the obelisk. But the obelisk is no longer available as a single but only as a multi pack. But its only $11 USD for the multi pack so their stuff is insanely affordable. All the stuff shown previously is probably less then $20 USD.

I prime/base coat with a generic cheap black spray paint and the blue is whatever I have in reach.

I just finished up my Indomitus marines today (see BA thread in signature) so be on the look out because some grim dark Crons are next! I just need to finalize how I am going to paint them. :teehee: I might just go all in on 10 warriors and see what happens then batch paint the rest.

Check out the royal awakening for ideas.

Did some color tests on the scarabs today. Tried a number of different enamel washes, brass and coppers. I think I have decided to use the colors pictured for the base color blocks. I want my new crons to be grimdark scary crons.

Now the question is how do I base them. My old crons use a dark earth base but my new scheme might not contrast enough. Martian would be easy and match my AdMech but I really dont want to rebase the old crons. Hmmm.

First 10 warriros and their scarab friends, plus the random plasmacyte complete. :biggrin.:

I have some fun color ideas that involve off white (see the link to my mechanicum in my signature) and dark brass for the rest of the force. Plan is to increase color complexity as rank increases. So warriors = minimal to zero, Overlord = more elaborate.

I finished up airbrushing the base dark metal on the rest of my Indomitous crons so next up is to mask and spray in some of the off white and brass.   I still have no idea how I am going to do the bladed weapons. . .Chrome, Chrome with transparent paints, GW box art style except in blue, something else?

Colour scheme kind of looks familiar. :p

I am curious how you will paint the higher ranks!

I painted the main metal on these warriors pretty much exactly how I paint the tracks on my mechanicum tanks. :teehee: I just used a different color enamel wash.

They look great, I love your bases and the overall look! Might've missed it but are you planning on redoing your earlier necrons to give them a similar grimdark look, or is silver part of the increased color complexity you mentioned?

Thanks! No plan to repaint anything. I barley have time to work on my pile o shame lol. Everything new will get the base dark metallic. Just accents and details will get more elaborate.

I am taking step by step pics of the next batch of warriors (well one of them lol) plus the plasmancer (who will get some extra colors) with paints used next to the mini. No idea how long it will take me to paint these up but I will have a tutorial when I am finished.
