Heraclite
Hi there! I recently joined the BnC after several years of lurking in the shadows and admiring all of your works. I'm a 33 years old french guy who just got back into the hobby! I started in this hobby around 2000 (mostly collecting as all my friends who also started 40k at the time lived in different villages and I had no way to get to them to play) with Space Marines, Ultramarines at first (as they were on the box) quickly followed by a chapter of my own invention (unnamed...) and another (also unnamed). I also had a few guardsmen at the time the plastic cadians were released, most of those remained on sprue... As I grew up I kinda stopped collecting and painting, and all my miniatures were storaged at my parents' house (I think I had around 3000 or 4000 points of various marines, about 1000 points of guard + loads of bits from my fathers findings on various flea markets!) I just knew they were there, and, after my son was born in 2010, I thougt I'd get them back at some point to introduce him to the hobby. Unfortunately, my parents' house burned down at Christmas 2013, and with it my dreams of playing with my kids. (luckily, no one was injured in that fire). My dad and uncle managed to salvage a few minis from the ruins of the house, so I have basically around 10 usable marines remaining from the old times including a metal captain (from the 3d ed command squad, as well as the standard bearer (without the banner shaft, that was already broken long ago) and a handful of tacticals in various states of "meltdown"). Luckily for me, Conquest launched in France last year and I subscribed to play with my kids. So I'm starting a new space marine army that will be focused on the Conquest models (the hobby money is veeeeeeeery limited) + the opposing deathguard force. I decided to tie my new chapter with my family history, as they will be known as the Void Cuirassiers. Indeed, my dad's last regiment while he was serving in the French army was the "6ème régiment de cuirassiers" (their insigna is my profile picture). As they were, originally, Cardinal de Richelieu's regiment, I think I will have them save a cardinal world at some point to incorporate the cardinal hat in banners! It's still very new and I hope I'll find the time to create some small blurbs of fluff for them and share my painting progress, maybe in a WIP topic. Sorry for the long read! And thanks a lot for having me! WarriorFish
Welcome to the B&C and back to the hobby :tu: It's a shame about your old models, but at least some survived. Maybe you can work their rebirth into their army lore? ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/364187-heraclites-hobby-comeback/#findComment-5530989 Share on other sites
Heraclite
At some point, the plan will be to build a kill team (for kill team) with the survivors, as I think the scale discrepancy between primaris and old marines is so huge... Maybe they'll share a campaign badge or something though! Dosjetka
Ah, too far then. I'm in Geneva/Genève so if you were in the neighbouring French area we could have organised some games. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/364187-heraclites-hobby-comeback/#findComment-5531830 Share on other sites
