Yesterday I finally was able to have a game again with a friend (wearing masks, strange times...)

We didn't had much time so we played at 1500 points and a maelstrom mission to make it easy. I lose the game but that is irrelevant because of the points and system that we played, what really worries me is how easy he beat me because I went second. We both knew what we were playing against so he tailor made his list against RG as I did against Eldars.

My list was a Pure RAVEN GUARD:

HQ

- Captian with jump pack power fist, master crafted weapon and imperium sword WT (poor man's smash captain)

- Phobos Librarian

- Primaris Chaplain

- Lt. with ex-tenebris

Troops

- x2 5 man intercessors, sarge with power sword

- 5 man incursors

Elites

- 5 agressors

-  Vanguard Vet (TH + ss, 2x LC, Power Sword + ss, Chain Sword)

- Venerable Dread (LS, Combat fist)

Heavy

- x2 Eliminators

- Whirlwind Hyperios

Flyer

- Stormhawk Interceptor (icarus stormcanon, skyhammer misile launcher)

(all these in 3 detachments to maximize cp)

My friend used two detachments

Alaitoc

- Flyer with exarc or something like that

- Serpent

- Some cheap troop

- Some cheap Hq

Custom Craftword (repeat 1 dice to hit and 1 to wound per unit dont know how they call it in eldar)

- 3 night spiners

- 5 dark reapers

- FarSeer

- Warlock

- Walker with lance

- Dire avengers

- The big head fusion constructs (deployed in reserves)

As I said, I went second, so I deployed in a conservative way, looking to block LoS and use cover when able. I deployed the Aggressors and the Chaplain via MoA in the middle of the board near the center objective with LoS blocking to many of his units, supported by the incursors and I put in reserves the captain and the Vvets.

It' was carnage. The flyer arrived to my backyard and destroyed my own flyer. The nightspiners hit hard to almost anything helped by their HQ buffs killing some eliminators and serious wounding the whirlwind. The dark reapers where buffed by the Farseer and Warlock with their top psychic powers (again I dont remember names but they are incredible good,) my Librarian wasn't close enough to attempt a dispel  and killed my Agressors.  The rest of the game was more or less me reviving the struggles of Corax to survive at Isvant V. Honour mention to my Dread who was MVP at only 145 points cost (with our chapter tactic is almost the same has having the comptemptor +5 invu but he doesn't degrade. I was unlucky with the VV and the captain and their charges and woundings, the flyer escaped from me after my turn 2 arrival (I only managed to do 3 wounds) and never catch it again.

So brothers, the question is, do you have any advice how to tailor a list to play with chance to win even  if you go second against an army that has long range, ignores cover, doesn't need LoS, does 2 wounds with most of their weapons and has huge boost via psychic powers?

My friend list hits our weakness and deactivates our strengths. I think if I had been first, the result would had been very tight, but I don't want to play a list that only can succeed if it goes first.   I presume that I have to go for a more heavy armoured list to counter the nightspiners and forget about MoA. I have a rematch at 2000pts soon, so I expect him to add to the cocktail some shining spears also. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Yeh that's an optimised eldar list and they're nasty played something similar at my last tournament and lost

Did he have the ignore cover buff too? Thay doesn't help

Definitely playing conservatively if going second is a must

Part of the reason is your list lacked some teeth and durability for what he brang

If you're still collecting your army though not much you can do just yet

Warsuits are great IMHO and I had good luck with my Executioner a good way to pad out to 2000 pts

New edition you won't have to worry about tailoring for CP either :tu:
