Hi all,

I've been away for a while and hope you're all well, played a few 8th edition games with my fluffy army long ago and after getting shot off the table in 1 turn every time I lost interest/lack of time.

Now since I've got plenty of time to paint I thought I'd start by finishing off a few models and eventually add to the Crusade but I've got a few questions...

1. Do you think GW will move entirely away from Mark 7(?) SM, with the BT upgrades regular Marines are the most expensive units I have and not looking forward to redo everything.

2. Any changes to the rule set since vanilla 8th that would make a fluffy army more viable?

3. All things being the same I remember thinking of adding some Cadian heavy weapon squads at the back to add some cheap shooting volume to cover my chainswords, would that be viable?

4. Also wanted to add squad markings to shoulder pads, how do I number companies being faithful to the lore?

Thanks!

1. Yes. It'll happen. The entire classic space marine range will be valid to play through warhammer legends, but I foresee more and more Primaris units will make them more and more irrelevant and at some point, I think the only classic marines GW will sell will be tied to Horus Heresy. This one is just entirely my opinion, but I do think the writings on the wall.

2. We're just about to get 9th edition, which has a large focus on melee and revamped terrain rules and such. Everyone's gonna make new lists, real soon.

3. I don't see why not. But again, about to get a new edition. Perceptions are about to shift largely in a months time or so.

4. We do not have traditional companies as such. Crusades have different fighting companies, but these are temporary like the crusades they're in. There's no real official way they visually distinguish themselves, aside from the Marshals household (which has all our veteran sword brethren, who of course wear veteran colours)

Indeed, we don't utilise company markings. However, it is common to create a crusade badge on a small shield design, and apply that to the legs of the marines. Squad numbers are commonly applied to the right knee, but aren't a universally followed thing. This is a useful resource: https://imgur.com/a/h2JayLa

You had me at "melee" :) nice to hear about the new edition, should be out by the time we're allowed to meet and have games again.

I'll put new BT purchases on hold for now and finish another LRC and few bases/details and maybe start working on my goal of having a "full" Helsreach Imperial force.

Thanks for the reply.

Nice one, was aware of most of it but forgot by now or lost the sources.

I wanted to add something to the free white pauldrons and white panels on vehicles, Armageddon badge seems good given my theme but on marines legs will be a nightmare to paint white through my usual 11 or so layers on such a small area :( vehicles totally going for it.

Yeah, it is a bit of a PITA. I tried making my own transfers, and have had middling results with them. Fortunately, these now exist: https://www.themightybrush.com/product/knights-templar-crosses-alternate-v2-waterslide-transfers-decal-sheet/

Forgeworlds old Black Templar transfer sheet would have covered you, but its been discontinued for quite a while now.

The mighty brush's alternate templar crosses sheet does actually have the trusty old armageddon badge, but the numbers per slide might be prohibitively low if you were aiming to get one on all your infantry.

don't know any other alternatives

Wow nice find! The cost it's surely prohibitive for around 100 models but I could always start with Vets/Elites and Brethren in each squad and the other decals serve me very well for other models.

I'm a happy brother now, that would make my army look insane.

Maybe if someone comes across this thread and doesn't need the Armageddon ones we could trade.
