Captain Idaho
So I'm gearing up for the latest Necron release, getting back into it since they were an old favourite of mine way back in the day... Let's talk alternative paint schemes. I'm not sure which direction to go and need inspiration. So me your paint schemes! I'm thinking of going with Caliban green myself, but not sure how far I'll cover the models. Maybe just obvious armour etc? Inspire me. NTaW
I just snapped a nice pic of this big guy so here you go: BUT I plan on switching it up with the new Crons. From my plog: Main armour will be white marble with grey veins, exposed metal joints and such still silver. Weapons will remain black but actually have some highlighting. I'm switching to talassar blue (I think) for the energy colour but still planning on some layering with blue and white after that. Noctilith will be marbled based off terradon turquoise, though I will be doing the veins on the white [marble] with a brush and the noctilith will be stippled with sponge and plastic wrap. Bonzi
Not gonna lie, necrons are not my favorite to paint so I created a quick easy paint scheme using the new GW paints. My only drive was no metallics, every Cron army is painted that way and I wanted to be different. Sorry for odd photos, I had to crop them until the file was small enough to upload. NTaW
Hey Bonzi, is that talassar blue over grey seer? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/364254-new-paint-schemes/#findComment-5534281 Share on other sites
Bonzi
Hey Bonzi, is that talassar blue over grey seer? That is Akhelian(sp?) Green over wraithbone. I have no idea why they call the color green. It's a very nice blue with a subtle green tone. Daimyo-Phaeron Lenoch
Oh...oh my...those are phenomenal. I’m just blown away, Bonzi. I may steal some aspect of an idea for this summer (I have an idea to do up some crons in an alternative scheme as a client dynasty and nonmetallic crons sounds like a way to go). Now to answer your question @captain Idaho, I use a combination of blue, green, and chrome. Blue tends to pop visually on necrons, IMO, especially if it’s paired with another color that it normally isn’t. I don’t have pics rn, but I may see about getting some for you to look at (alternatively, my gallery may be a place to look in the meantime). It's a very nice blue with a subtle green tone. I have a pot of Akhelian Green and it came out teal (so still not actually green but much more green than yours). MithrilForge
It might depend on how much you shake the bottle , Contrast paints are not very exact sometimes... my mates and I have Dabbled with them but kinda ditched em and gone back to normal paints, without any negativity to people who do use them I think contrast was and is a fad paint... Get Thokt
I'm liking those Necron bases! Are these the ones from Wargame Base World? Also, how do I upload pictures onto here? Bonzi
I'm liking those Necron bases! Are these the ones from Wargame Base World? Also, how do I upload pictures onto here? I have a friend who does bases as a side hustle. I don't remember where he buys his rollers from but it's just a roller, clay, and 3d printed cookie cutters that match different base sizes. The upload function is through the non-mobile version of the platform under 'my gallery'. 2mb limit per photo. NTaW
Thanks for the info Bonzi, I feel like I'm just going to have to bring a couple models into the local GW and ask to test some paints when I can and see these greens and blues with my own eyes. For hosting pictures if file size limit gets you down there are options like Flickr, what I use, but it's definitely still a clunky process in its own way. Get Thokt
Thank you! I am currently in the works of a neat thread that needs some picture uploads. Baron Sebas
That roller is most likely from greenstuffworld. Their rollers are amazing. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/364254-new-paint-schemes/#findComment-5535809 Share on other sites
Get Thokt
Wanted to know your thoughts and experiences using these paints for edge highlights: Stormhost Silver https://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Layer-Stormhost-Silver-2019 Necron Compound https://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Dry-Necron-Compound-2019 Ironbreaker https://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Layer-Ironbreaker-2019 I've got my new paint scheme listed down and noticed these three paints commonly used with Necrons. I'm looking to use one of these with Hashut Copper, as I'll be going for the new armour scheme and using Thokt blue for the glyphs/energy. Axineton
I’m thinking of going gold and pink or purple when I decide to start necrons. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/364254-new-paint-schemes/#findComment-5539110 Share on other sites
MithrilForge
@ Get Thokt- i'd go with Ironbreaker from the choices you have there...necron Compound is a rip off...get leadbelcher instead and you have a normal paint and also a dry brushing paint if needs be... (dry paints are a gimmick ) Also if your going with hashut copper you may want to include Brass scorpion in there as well for a little bit of contrast on different parts of the models so it's not ALL hashut copper... @Axineton - Hmmm Gold and Purple would look pretty awesome... Also forgot to mention that Bonzi's bases would really be cooler (cool already) if they were Metal with a green recess wash in those circuit area's... Get Thokt
I heard Seraphim Sepia or Reikland Fleshade is a good choice to wash over hashut copper. Have you tried any of these washes over the copper? I've used Reikland on Hashut Copper. It looks good. It looks good on any metal color in the gold-brass-copper range, I think. I don't think I've ever had Seraphim Sepia to try, though. Bonzi
Also forgot to mention that Bonzi's bases would really be cooler (cool already) if they were Metal with a green recess wash in those circuit area's... Cheers, Mithril No question, they totally would be. Necrons are my third army and I really don't enjoy painting them so I will feely admit my entire mentality with my paint scheme was to find the simplest non standard color scheme I could that would let me rapidly paint my army. I love necrons with the highlighted circuits and the glow effects, but I'm way to lazy to paint them. It's a shame I know, but my pile of shame has grown to a mountain of failure lol.
