Lukoi
Folks, Anyone know of a place that can make custom transfer sheets? I was trying to use Fallouthobbies.com but they've not answered multiple attempts to reach out to their business email (not sure if they're busy, technical challenges, who knows), and I would prefer transfers over bulkier type of 3D print icons you can buy from Popgoesthemonkey/Shapeways as I'm looking for a specific custom option. I've googled, but largely come up empty save for Fallout, so any ideas are welcome. I'm writing from the US, but more than willing to look at any reputable firm out there that does this kind of work, thanks. Magos Takatus
I have had mixed success with Fallout hobbies. I got one order out of them that was great, it was an insignia for my own Forge World. However, I had a real problem with my last order. The image that I requested was my Knight house crest. The image was redrawn as I wanted, even redesigned slightly to stand out better on my Knight's shoulder plates. Once that was done the order was supposedly dispatched... only I never received the decals. I asked for another set to be sent only to be told they would look into the situation. I never received the decals for whatever reason so I eventually gave up. Because I waited too long I couldn't get a refund through Paypal. I have heard of https://www.facebook.com/Scumb4g.Kustoms/ on Facebook but I can't vouch for them because I've never tried to order through them. Lukoi
Thanks Magos. I ran into that same FB page, and incidentally, it linked me to the fallout FB page, where I managed to get ahold of them. Hopefully it works out like your first experience with them! I've had exactly the same issues/mixed success with Fallout Hobbies. However I can highly recommend Scumb4g Kustoms. The quality of the transfers is excellent with the images/icons being sharp and perfectly printed. I will reach out to them this morning as well. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/364258-custom-transfers/#findComment-5533275 Share on other sites
Brother Desultor
Yes they are. But they're good at responding and to be honest the delivery times are not that bad. Especially if you compare to the previously mentioned alternative source.... Astral Arcane
Thanks for the lead to Scumb4g Kustoms... been looking into custom transfers myself lately. Unfortunately with the pandemic it seems it is taking extra long to ship to the USA internationally... Lukoi
Just figured I'd revisit this thread, over two months later. I ordered from fallout, and while I wasn't pleased with the 6-8 weeks needed to print and ship the order, I figured I'd try it out (btw, I placed the order on 6th of June). I periodically asked for order updates, about once a week, when they went completely off the net after a reply on the 19th of July. I repeatedly asked for an update and got nothing, even after warning them I'd have the charges reversed by the CC company if they failed to process the order. Really wasn't trying to be a jerk about it, but c'mon. Not until after I contacted the CC company to reverse the charges 9 weeks after placing the order, and a full month since their reply to one of my weekly requests for an update, did they send me a note to let me know they'd be unhappy with the print outs etc, but were refunding my money. Tbh, they could have kept me as a customer had they just replied to me, and kept me in the loop regarding their challenges, rather than waiting until I forced them into action by reversing the sale. I understand it's a small laser printing operation, but they've got to get their responsiveness level up to a reasonable point. Ignoring a customer for a full month, when you're already running behind, simply isn't a tenable business behavior ime. Magos Takatus
Ah, sorry to hear you also had bad fortunes with Fallout Hobbies. They are a company with a lot of potential but as you say not notifying the customer if they are behind schedule is pretty poor. Anyway, onto more positive things, I successfully got an order completed by Scumb4g Kustoms and I am really pleased with the result. (Click on the images for larger versions) I had a very complicated crest design to begin with but they redrew the crest into the image provided above. They printed the design into two different sizes, one for the tilting plate and a smaller design for the crew hatch and the banner. I have a space marine project to do one day and Scumb4g Kustoms will be the first company I approach for the design. Lukoi
I will try them next. How long did the entire process take for you between ordering, solidifying design, and shipping? At this point, my space marines will go without markings for as long as it takes, but still curious what I might expect. Magos Takatus
With me it took a bit under a month but that was an extreme case because they had to re-draw my design because it was likely too complicated They have more experience with space marines rather than Imperial Knights. If you have a simple design that's ready to go it would probably be significantly less time than that. Bear in mind they are based in Japan so shipping time will also factor into it. You can probably ask them for an estimated turnaround time anyway. :) I'll be interested to see what you get produced and how it goes so I'll try to keep an eye on this topic. WrathOfTheLion
Is there a way to place an order through scumb4g without Facebook? I was thinking about getting some custom transfers, but I do not have an account on facebook and don't want to create one. Magos Takatus
I am not sure about contact details outside of Facebook since that was how I contacted them. I took a look and saw contact details for Twitter and Instagram if that helps. NiceGuyAdi
I looked into this a few years ago, and I found the time delay and cost so off-putting I learned to do it on an inkjet printer myself at home. You might want to as well. It requires a printer, decal paper, gloss spray varnish and a bit of knowledge with photoshop or gimp. The benefit is, you can change your mind on things without spending your whole cost all over again, and start making custom stuff, like sheets of script or purity seals. Here's a quickly and badly taken photo of what I've been doing: Doghouse and Magos Takatus 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/364258-custom-transfers/#findComment-5593175 Share on other sites
Magos Takatus
How did you achieve the white decal? From what I understood it was really fiddly to make white decals using white decal paper. I really like the red and black icons and the test looks really useful. NiceGuyAdi
White decals with clear paper are simple enough when you get your head around it. I did a quick tutorial on my plog here. Post #42. jaxom
Rather than start a new thread about transfers; does anyone have any experience or insight into using 15mm scale shield decals on 28mm scale minis - marine shoulder pads specifically? Carlson793
As long as the decal you're using is 8mm or less in diameter, it should work fine. If it's below 6mm diameter, however, it might start looking a bit too small. For comparison, Mk VII knees usually take a 5mm diameter decal.
