I'm looking to get some organization for my desk. My paints are in a tub that I hate dragging out and looking through and I'd prefer to add a little more storage for WIP and general 'hobby stuff' that clutters my desk and drawers.

I've seen two systems I like.

The first is from HobbyZone: https://www.hobbyzone.pl/en/12-modular-workshop-system/

The second is from TTG: https://www.tabletopgamerstore.com/accessories/ttg-modular-hobby-organizer-system/

I like the HZ stuff a little more however they're OOS on some items and their shipping from the US distributor is very expensive. TTG suits my needs and the shipping is much more reasonable. I wanted to reach out and see if there are any other companies that offer similar products that I should consider. I'd also like to know if you have experiences with either of the two mentioned companies and can provide feedback on the product.

I use an acrylic nail polish organizer rack (maybe twenty bucks from Amazon) on my desktop for the 'active' paints in my current project, and a laser cut MDF bottle rack I keep in a nearby drawer for storage. As I start a new project, paints rotate between the two. Tools are kept in a plastic art supply/pencil box. Brushes in a couple of old coffee mugs.

I'm not a fan of those all-in-one MDF solutions, but that's just a matter of personal preference.

Don't know if you've tried this but HobbyZone has a US website with much cheaper shipping (pretty sure it ships from a distributor here in the US). Looks like they have most everything in stock. Hope this helps.

Yes I did look at their US distributor, they were out of a few pieces I wanted and their shipping was pretty high.

If you think the shipping is high, try ordering it direct from Poland. :biggrin.:

I got a load of HZ stuff several years ago when there was no US distribution.  It behooves you to order a lot at one time.  The high shipping is because it's heavy.  There's not much way around that with particle board stuff like this.  I just ordered a new workbench that's coming from just across the border in NJ and the shipping was like 30% the cost of the item. :dry.:

The HZ product is a great one.  Well laid out, super space efficient, extremely modular, easy enough to assemble and pretty sturdy.  Only suggestion is to build up.  Unless you have a lot of open horizontal space on your desk, you'll be limited on the amount of paint holders.

Jesus my paint desk looks like an art teacher dumped their suitcase all over a table and ran away.

Same, I got my new desk from Ikea yesterday just need to set it up. I have more motivation to keep it in order though as I have more drawers now so I need less stuff out.

I couldn't really get on with MDF racks for some reason, ended up chucking mine away and replacing with the Citadel ones which are surprisingly good imo; adjustable legs to you can have them at different angles and orientations, and wall-mountable too if you prefer that.

That said, the are presumably only good for Citadel paints, and they do obviously come with a GW price tag (get them from 3rd party stores)

My hobby desk is just a nice simple Hornby paint station, bitz box drawers & then a large figure case full of paints. X)

I have heard good things about the nail varnish racks etc...only reason I store mini in a case is that my hobby den is a conservatory & as such has silly fluctuations in temperature. Seriously, paints in the “open” just go soooo funky!

For me atmosphere is important to go us on painting. Nail polish racks always felt cheap and just felt like I did cheap out. I decided to go with hobbyzone over TTG due to the paint brush holders and tool module looked more convenient. The only thing I regret is not painting it properly as it does slightly look cheap.

I recommend using the corner for paints and the straight ways for other things like tools and displays.

Most of my paints are Vallejo so the Citadel racks aren't a practical option. I have maybe 20 Citadel pots but close to 100 Vallejo.

My hobby desk is my actual desk, so I have to store everything (paints, brushes, mat, airbrush, ...) in a closet when I finish the hobby session.

I store paints in some cardboard boxes that are as tall as the citadel paint pots and are stackable as well. The ones on top of the other contain the taller pots and dropper bottles.
It's certainly not fun but it helps in keeping it organized.

How do the citadel pots sit in the paint station? I have tipped a few pots in my time. Problem with my new desk- it has my new PC, so RIP doing anything else besides painting there now hobby wise.

Would you recommend them Ovidius? Considering getting some so that I can stack vertically when my stuff isn't in use, and then arrange more horizontally when I have access to the table (no permanent workspace these days

How many of you paint on a desk with a PC? I would never get work done if I could just fire up DotA and play that instead...

*raises hand*

I bought an 'executive' desk that's an L with a hutch. I WFH so I combine the two. Monitors/PC/work laptop on one side, hobby on the other. I can put my hobby up inside the hutches when not in use.

This was after I first put it together, so it's more cluttered now. I'm hoping to get some type of organization system to go under the hutch so things are easily accessible and not strewn about my desk.

Very jealous! If I could afford my own place then this is the kind of thing that I would love to have, but it feels like one of those things I might be able to achieve when I'm 60
