eternal_warrior12
Played a 1000 pt game today against a good buddy. Very experienced ‘nid player. I ran a primaris black tide against a few big bugs with the Swarmlord and three units of 20 hormagaunts. .... damn near killed the Swarmlord with massed shooting and after him failing to kill anything in close combat we called it end of turn two because I outnumbered him. Not a great place for the bugs. I am so excited for the new models to drop and hopefully something to bring the bugs up to snuff as per the Necron bump. Medjugorje
After first half year 9th edition I will do a few "enemy" tactica rooms where we can discuss how to play each enemy. redmapa and Gendo 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/364366-so-tyranids/#findComment-5536482 Share on other sites
eternal_warrior12
Bringing back “shoot the big ones” gets my vote. He threatened to bring gene stealers next time and I don’t know how that would have gone better. More deadly? Absolutely. A third as many? Probably and they still due by the handfuls to bolt rifles. Hymnblade
Genestealers can advance and charge. Coupled with the Swarmlord's ability and Opportunistic Advance, this gives them a pretty insane threat range. Unless you deploy way back (which many BT armies don't want to do), he can pretty easily get a turn 1 charge with an intact unit - either because he goes first and deploys them on the line, or because you go first and he deploys them out of LOS. They cost 10 points per model rather than 5, but they're t4/5++ instead of t3/6+, so they're about equally durable to bolter fire, point for point. eternal_warrior12
Against “old marines” they do absolute work. Them and the broodlord. Now I’m an expert at being killed by them as I’ve been a marine player for 23 years now. Against primaris... they are just too resilient and weapons are too Killy. Being able to fire pistols against engaged units also helps. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/364366-so-tyranids/#findComment-5537388 Share on other sites
Champion Rawne
In my experience Nid troop choices get mulched by a black tide. Power armor is just too durable compared to genestealers and hormagaunts. Hive Guard with their mortar weapons and the shooty gaunts being deepstriked into your backline via Trygon are what you have to watch out for. Medjugorje
if you can screen as good as possible. But if the new character rules are real( the black guy with the sword, forget the name yet), it would be even better.
