Panzer
i want reivers to be awesome in 9th I think now with Assault Intercessors and Strategic Reserves there's no hope for Reivers ever becoming more than a flavour unit.
Captain Antargo
Reivers would most likely be used for holding objectives.
Leonaides
Rievers may come into use if you know you will be on a dense terrain board where their grappling hooks may help out. Otherwise, yep - struggling to see much benefit unless against tau or guard where no overwatch even with the stratgem might help and their terror troops rule may also help out. Indefragable
Apologies if I sound like a broken record, but with what we know about 9th, my thoughts on Reivers are that they should go all-in on the "special" unit type. Look at Troops, we essentially have grunts (Tacs and Intercessors of all flavors) and specialists (Scouts, Infiltrators) and then Incursors (who blend the two....have I mentioned I think they are phenomenal?) So when it comes to Elites and Fast Attack units, Reivers are overshadowed by what every other unit can do. As such, I think they need become more like Infiltrators to differentiate themselves. In fact, I think that is the best comparison for them. I would go so far as to suggest that Reivers should become the anti-Infiltrators...units that are ok combat dudes, but who's shtick is that they can show up within the 9" DS bubble. Like a power armored version of Cult Ambush of sorts. The idea is they are Terror Troops: they cause panic in the opposing player by being able to mess with the formula of the game a bit. They create a hole in lines that in and of itself may not be a big deal, but for the right general it could be just the chink in the armor that turns the tide of battle. Just my thoughts. Blindhamster
ah the sanguinius approach - create a chink via self sacrifice lol Indefragable 1 Back to top
Panzer
I mean I sound even more like a broken record then, because I've been saying this for over a year now, but imo falling back should require a LD check which would automatically give Reivers with their -1LD aura a unique role as disruption unit without needing to be huge damage dealers. :P Indefragable, Quixus, Klod and 1 other 4 Back to top
Quixus
Exactly a firing retreat takes skill, a rout causes massive casualties. I have no problem with a routed unit being overrun/shot to bits. ATSKNF should mean something.
Warhead01
I have a wish to add to the list. I'd like an aircraft transport usable by Primaris.
Panzer
Not sure how useful an aircraft transport still is these days with Strategic Reserves, only being allowed to disembark before moving the vehicle and Impulsors/Repulsors already existing. Quixus 1 Back to top
Warhead01
Not sure how useful an aircraft transport still is these days with Strategic Reserves, only being allowed to disembark before moving the vehicle and Impulsors/Repulsors already existing. It's a little complicated and probably difficult to pull off but imagine they Aircraft would have skimmer. I have a unit not doing well in combat and decide to fall back, embark the skimming aircraft, which then revert to flying and leave the table until the next turn. The embarked unit could later be deposited just about anywhere. We could for the most part do the same thing with either of the other two transports sans leaving the table. Panzer
Highly unlikely scenario, but sure.
