WrathOfTheLion
The first entry for Shrike is "Add 'Death From Above' (See Codex: Space Marines)", which gives him deepstrike. They've factored rules like that out to give sort of a faction-level USR for it. Alcyon
5 Eradicators is a great idea! Anyone else thinking that a Judicar with Armor of Shadows is just mean in a small point game? The relic didn't change at all with the FAQ so I dunno why this is coming up now particularly, but ignore AP1 and essentially granting enemy marines -1 to hit against him isn't that big a deal I don't think, is it? Sure, maybe in a small game where there are few heavy weapons, but he's always going to have a screen anyways right? His biggest problem is his 4+ invuln doesn't work against shooting so he in particular needs a retinue to avoid being killed. I suppose if you don't have any other relics in mind it's not a bad choice. Jacques Corbin
What I am wondering now, and eager to get my hands on my own codex, is to figure out how to support my midfielders. Firstly, my Infiltrators. These are my camp and hold guys. You can't deep strike close to them, so you have to walk to charge them. Given our CT, an enemy has to get close to shoot them at full effect. I was thinking Bolter Aggressors, but apparently they lost their run and gun ability, still they do put out a lot of shots. Maybe I will drop in Inceptors instead. Or, perhaps I will use Outriders or a Storm Speeder. I don't know yet. Next is Incursors. My move up and grab an enemy held objective or piece of terrain. I usually have them Bolter down the survivors after my Thunderfire Cannon(s) rain artillery. But, now, the TFCs lost a point of strength and their AP, so now I am inclined to try a speeder or Outriders for closer support. I wonder if Suppressors, with their extra shot, will be worth it?. Outriders with a biker Chaplain is tempting too. The Incursors already ignore cover and to hit penalties, add +1 to wound vs closest (Catechism of Fire) from Chappy, and that is a 4+ to wound T5 to T7, >/=T8 on a 5+, T3 and T4 on a 3+. I wonder if Suppressors following a biker Chaplain will be worth it? I mean, they will be hitting on 4+ for moving, but that extra shot. CoF will be brutal on them, wounding T4 and below on 2+, T5 to T7 on 3+, and T8 and up on 4+ until you fire at a T14 target. Are there T14 targets? Now, I like the idea of Storm Speeders, and having them zoom up as a quick reaction force after my opponent's opening moves. I really think with the emphasis on terrain in the new edition, plus smaller table sizes, the new speeders will be great. I just wish they would have made a transport version that carries Phobos armored marines. What are everyone's thoughts on giving a Techmarine Master of Ambush, and dropping him and Assault Intercessors or Aggressors next to an Invictor Warsuit? I know, everyone thinks healing is weak. But, having the Techmarine nearby pressures an opponent to devote more anti tank fire to that Invictor, or else those Autocannons and that Heavy Bolter will be blazing away at full BS. Also, the Techmarine comes with a Power Axe, and you will already have a power weapon on your Assault Intercessor Sergeant, so that will be 2 power weapons, and that Invictor Fist. Dracos
Infiltrators starts midfield MoA 10 Assault Intercessors to block Bladeguard from the Shadows to hold Variations of this depend on opponent, terrain, mission and can substitute the Intercessors with Reivers, Aggressors, and Bladeguard with Centurions. I use Inceptors with Shrike as a harassment/support unit to draw fire and counter assault units away from the middle by threatening other Objectives. Jacques Corbin
Now that is an interesting point. Terrain rules and Reivers. Are grapnel Reivers going to be good with new terrain rules? I mean, especially with taller terrain with multiple floors, they can hide up on the highest floor, while the enemy must spend movement as usual. So, either the Reivers charge down, on an enemy they have been shooting the whole time. Or, they lure the enemy assault unit to the upper floors, where they will have to climb down to assault anything else.
