NKirkham24
So with Engine War now in the wild, I was wondering if any of you have come across any stand out combos from the new household traditions and the stratagems Imperial Knights now have? What combos are you planning to take? Are you sticking with the original household traditions, and just getting extra mileage with new strats, or are you using a new tradition(s) to get the most from your Knights, both Questor Mechanicus and/or Imperialis. hermanista
Really tempted by a Cold Eradication Valiant, probably as house Raven. With the shorter table in 9th, Move 10" Advance 8" with the new strat Shoot everything, with cold eradication giving the 'add a dice, drop the lowest' for anything with random shots. Burninate something with the flamer. Add Order of Companions strat for added silliness. Probably not a tournament winner, but fun at least NKirkham24 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/364435-imperial-knights-new-household-traditions-strats/#findComment-5538028 Share on other sites
Focslain
Well the mechanicus oath gives a minor heal which is nice. I like most of the knight specific strats, the gallant and errant the only lack luster ones. I have a custom trait for an all armigar list, the hounds of war and the save versus psychic wounds or exploding sixes. Depends on who I'm fighting. I like that they gave us strats that remove the random shots, that combined with more CP to start will help us in the long run. hermanista
The more I think about it, the better Cold Eradication seems. With some admech allies and Knight of the Cog/Lucius +1 Inv canticle, whisper it quietly but I could see the Castellan become viable again - even more so if their points are rebalance. You probably wouldn't even need to go as house Raven, going for Tanaris for the survivability Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/364435-imperial-knights-new-household-traditions-strats/#findComment-5538842 Share on other sites
Clingy
The only issues I can see with a 9th hat on are It’s 1 round of 1CP to 4++ Then you have to spend 3CP for the next few times (assuming it’s alive.) our darkest hour is 3-4 CP with bad luck/reroll We also have the issue of how allies work. Taking a Lucius detachment might mean a lot less starting CP. and we get at most 12? I am no expert but didn’t those frontline gaming guys say expect point hikes for all armies(rather then drops) I wouldn’t be shocked If he just stayed the same, which I suppose is a sideways buff of sorts if our other knight chassis are going up. I love my Castellan but I’m not sure if he’s worth it outside of fluffy games or apocalypse Despite sounding like a Debbie Downer I’m going to give it a try. See if I can prove myself wrong. Whilst allies are a think taking two Batallion and powering him up does sound fun Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/364435-imperial-knights-new-household-traditions-strats/#findComment-5538879 Share on other sites
PiñaColada
I can attest to the fact that Cold Eradication is dumb good. I ran it on my Castellan in a game yesterday (in a Krast detachment, so no real other buffs for him) with Cawl's Wrath and honestly the stability in amount of shots you get is scary. Sure, he's still a big slow brick that rarely helps you score any points directly but he also impeded my opponents ability to score because everything tried to stay out of his firing lane.It very well might be the best WT in the book IMO. Obviously it's sad that RIS then costs 3CP if you want to use it so it'd be even better on a knight that isn't dominus class. Focslain
Terrain changes - what you folks think? Armigars are going to be needed to scout out areas blocked by obsuring terrain. Also ironstorm missiles are going to be popular. NKirkham24
Definitely, think this gives more utility to the Warglaives. Helverins, with their range, can stay on a backfield objective, but Warglaives with their shorter range want to get forward. I think this will help them, and we 'should' be able to hide them at times too. ValourousHeart
I'm like running my knights fairly aggressively, so I had been using House Mortan with my Valiant as the Warlord with Legacy of the Black Pall as the WLT. But I wanted to mix close range shooting with assault... to force me to get in close, but not penalize me if my opponent wasn't cooperative about letting me get into assault. Now I'm really liking the look of a custom household using Defiant Fury and Front-line Fighters, with Sacristan Pledge as the Oath and Cold Eradication. It rewards me for getting in my opponents face, which is where I want my Knights to be anyway. If they start damaging me I only get better in assault with +1A and +1 to hit when at half wounds or less. Healing 1 would per turn per Knight is far better than bringing our terrain piece, but should they make that terrain work better than I should still have enough points to take one. Should also keep me in the fight a little longer since I'm need to take damage to activate my 2nd tradition ability. Although could potentially knock me out of activation. Just wish there was a way to make the Harpoon a little more reliable. NKirkham24
Absolutely with you on the harpoon. Always having to use a CP for that 1 to hit roll. I've never know something as consistently inconsistent Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/364435-imperial-knights-new-household-traditions-strats/#findComment-5542054 Share on other sites
Clingy
It needs to be D3 or ignore invulnerable saves. A bonus would be to use it as a flail in melee. Lord Lorne Walkier
I run a lance of Terryn. Paladin, Preceptor, Warden (freeblade), 2x Warglaive. I see a bunch I will beable to use. The strategy for the RFBC will be the first thing to be used. Turning the relic into a 3d6, take the highest 2 shots, 3 wound, str 9 seems real good. The strat for the Las Impulsor, making it 6 shots at close range, also will get used. Feels good to see the models I like to use pushed closer to "competitive". NKirkham24
Completely agree, a few of the strats have boosted the less competitive options. I typically run Hawkshroud, I painted my first knight yellow and black before the codex came out and I was aware of the Houses so it seems fitting, although I could run them as any Household. My favourite is the Valiant, I just love that mega flamer and the utterly ridiculous (in a good way) Harpoon. I like that it got a could of strats to boost it too, smashing the harpoon into something then getting D3 MWs to nearby units is nice. The overwatch one is ok, given the massive flamer though, being charged isn't too common. I was thinking to go for custom house, Blessed Arms and Glorified History. Extra range and a free hit re-roll per model? I think it will improve the reliabilty of the harpoon and gives a little extra reach. I'd probably class them as Mechanicus as well for the regen 1W per turn, keep them kicking longer. Lord Lorne Walkier
Now that i have had a chance to look through this book, i have had a change of heart. Terryn is out. I will miss the Thunder of V. No longer being "Counts as", will help. House Quill it shall be. Slayer of Beasts with Noble combatants, speak to me. I don't run a Gallant but still think i can get some fun out of these rules. Adding Raveger to my Paladen with Seneschal or Revered wl traits seems good. Questor Imperials is my oath. Lord Lorne Walkier
I did the math... My Paladin warlord should be dealing 29.2, AP-4, wounds vs a T8 Monster/ Vehicle, on average. Household traditions: Slayer of Beasts (+1 as vs monsters/ Vehicles). Noble combatants (natural 6's count as 2 successes). Warlord trait: Knight Seneschal (+1 attack). Relic: Ravager (str +8, AP-4, D6, re-roll hit rolls of 1). That to me is crazy good NKirkham24 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/364435-imperial-knights-new-household-traditions-strats/#findComment-5589190 Share on other sites
Lord Lorne Walkier
I actually got my Knights on the table and got some dice rolling. Using my new household from above some observations. I have two, soon to be three, Warglaives. Them being herded by my Preceptor gives them a 2++, exploding 6's. With them using thier chain-cleavage to sweep, the exploding 6's keep going. Also the Preceptor stratigem, Capacitor charge is really good. For 1 CP, a steal.
