Over a year ago I last posted some pictures to my WIP thread. Then I completely forgot about it, but I've been painting my Custodes slowly and steadily. I haven't played 40k in almost a year and this army is mostly a showcase army (I've been playing Necromunda on the gaming side of things).

The basis for painting my Custodes is the Warhammer TV tutorial by Duncan Rhodes. The only part where I've used drybrushing (apart from bases) is the steel parts on the grav-tank (I know, maddness). Trajann and Telemon took part in a local painting contest a year ago and Trajann won the small category (the miniatures were on display in the local game store for a month and all customers could vote their favorite).

So here are the pictures (in my opinion the pictures came out slightly too reddish):

These are absolutely beautiful! Have to admit I've never been overly keen on the Custodes ("they're all just gold") but you might have swayed me a little. The gold isn't overpowering (and I think works better for not being overdone), your robes are clean, faces are beautiful, and the blades & gems contrast really well with the red. Good basing finishes them off without being too much of a distraction.

Are the Aquila/wreath freehand?

Going to have to show these to a guy who's starting a Custodes force, think he'll appreciate it!

Thanks for the comments. The Aquilas and the wreaths are from the Custodes transfer sheet from Forge World.

The ones of the back of the robes (beardy fella and bald fella)? I was going to compliment you on your work!

I actually forgot to tell my friend about these, will have to get round to it!

Okay, you meant them. They are part of the models and they're some of my first NMM painting attempts.

These are really nice, clean paint finish, love the cloaks sharp highlights and good shadows.

If I was to be slightly critical, hopefully constructive, the gold is lacking contrast to really make it pop. It might be the photos but the shadows are a bit light, maybe a purple wash to give some deeper shadows on the gold? Not everywhere but just in the deeper recesses. Like I said I'm being picky but I'd be really happy if these were mine :biggrin.:

Thank you all for the comments. If anyone is interested my local gaming store has announced a new painting challenge and I've picked up big ol' Mortarion. I'm planning to post some pictures to a new thread when he's ready. Something dirty after all the clean gold.
