Hi guys,

I am down to my last half pot of Charadon Granite, the old GW foundation paint and I am looking for an alternative - it’s a brilliant colour I use for paint chips on Ceramite, painting old tattoos, belt straps, all sorts really. It was quite a unique colour, kind of a dark green grey.

Also I am after something to replace the old Space Wolf Grey and Asurmen Blue wash - colours I use for my Flesh Eater’s skin which are also many years old!

Cheers :tu:

Vallejo Game Colour Wolf Grey is supposed to be a match for Space Wolf Grey.  Coat D'Arms' Lupin Grey should be identical, as it should be the same paint as was used in the 1990's.

I can't comment on the others, I'm afraid.  The colour comparison table on Dakka Dakka has some ideas, but they're not always 100% accurate (Vallejo Heavy Charcoal is a straight grey, and doesn't quite have the same tone as Charadon Granite).

Dunno if that helps?

++EDIT: I can't type :blush:

Instar do a 'vintage' range that's been specifically colour matched against old GW paints. They are currently out of stock due to a supplier issue, but should return.

IV-02 is charadon granite, IV-05 is the old space wolves grey. They are thinner than the old foundation paints, roughly a layer paint.

Army Painter Blue Tone wash is a drop-in replacement for Asurman Blue (the AP washes used to be labelled "inks", but were always a wash). The whole army painter wash range is a really good match for the previous range of citadel washes; AP strong tone wash being a straight swap for devlan mud etc.

@ Firedrake Cordova & Arkhanist; that’s brilliant thank you for your help both :tu: :tu:

The joys of returning to an old army!! :D

I see that Instar also do a Mechrite Red derivative too - I purchased every last Mechrite Red I could when they went oop but that is also great to know too.

Good to hear! I will grab myself some when back in stock - though airbrushing has always been beyond me I am too old fashioned lol I will grab some others whilst I am at it too from them.

I have already ordered myself Army Painter Blue tone too :tu:

What you could always do is get a close match, affect the whole pot with a color mix, then just mark on the bottle that is your new mix.

Take this blog for example, listing it vs. a P3 Thornwood Green and stormvermin fur. I'd take thornwood then slowly add black to reach the correct shade, treat it as your replacement.

Ive done similar making my own SoH green and a nice construction yellow/orange

Thanks Syrakul :tu: I did see the post on the blog but I am hoping to get a from the pot solution if you will. I fairness, the Charadon Granite is not used as the main colour of any army of mine, I just use it for details such chipping and the like so it is not imperative for the exact match. The grey, blue and red on the other hand!

Well worth baring in mind should I struggle in the future or Instar don’t restock :tu: :tu:

You know airbrushing is around for more than 100 years? Its been used for editing photographs.

Easily airbrushing colors is usefull for me and i struggeld alot with the old Foundation paints when i got my first setup.

In the other side Instar sells 100 ml bottles if you want to paint a whole army.
