Skywrath
So, I've been thinking. In the Imperium, with the Psychic Awakening, lately there have been an influx of psychic recruits for both other chapters, and for us the Grey Knights. It is my understanding that 1 in 1000 psykers becomes a Space Marine, a librarian. The number increases for the Grey Knights, due to our trials. The assignment classifies each psyker according to different ability, the scale is below (I divided it into, unconscious, conscious and dangerous, respectively): Rho // Pi No manifestation of psychic talent (common human being). Omicron // Xi // Nu // Mu // Lambda // Kappa Unconscious and minor level of psionic brain activity. Such low levels of talent only manifest in high-stress experiences and remain beyond the control of the individual. Phenomenon commonly explained as "good luck" or "fluke" occurrences. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Iota // Theta // Eta Conscious and moderate level of psionic talent. As the individual is able to control abilities with effort, subjects of Iota level and higher are true psykers and under the jurisdiction of the Inquisition and Adeptus Astra Telepathica. Zeta // Epsilon Very high level of mental psychic activity. Manifesting early, these levels of talent (and those above) require the immediate attention of Imperial authorities and represent a true security threat. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Delta // Gamma Occurring in approximately one-per-billion human births, Delta and Gamma level psykers exhibit extreme levels of psionic ability. Unless discovered quickly, death or possession are common results of the untrained mind being unable to handle this level of mental energy. Beta // Alpha Exceedingly rare and dangerous. Mainstream Medicae Imperialis discussion agrees that current human beings do not possess the necessary evolutionary development to contain Beta and Alpha levels of psionic talent. As such, the great majority of those discovered at this Assignment rating usually suffer from mental instability. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alpha-Plus In the rarest of all cases, the twenty-four point scale of the Assignment does not adequately characterise a being of indescribable ability. Such individuals, for all intents and purposes, pass beyond the scale entirely. These subjects are known as Alpha-Plus psykers. As with everything there is an exception. For instance, Hyperion is classified as a mirror-psyker, which means he emulates the abilities of other grey knights while having no psychic abilities of his own. By that graph, he would be classified as either a pi or omnicron psyker (low psychic ability). However due to the fact that his ability mirrors the others and their disciplines, that puts him as a zeta/epsilon based on the description. Question here: So now I come to the point of this post. Where would an average grey knight psyker (anyone from a battle-brother to a grand master) fall, and at what psychic level would the aspirant need to be in order to get inducted into the Grey Knights? And are the Grey Knight psykers as a general rule stronger than the best of the regular chapter of the astartes? What makes this question even more interesting/problematic is that there are multiple ways to boost a psyker potential. The Grey Knights have the Aegis, when they are in a squad - channelling all psychic power into their justicar. Their wargear helps with this as well, leading me to believe that a combination of all that can boost an individuals psychic ability up a few tiers, presumably the older the gear gets. It's also assumed that the older the Grey Knight is, and the more time the Emperor's Gift matures, the stronger the psychic ability gets, with no limit being mentioned. So what do you think? TLDR: See the paragraph in Italics. casb1965
I would say a minimum of Iota // theta // Eta and more likely zeta // epsilon. Purely because all GKs have the ability to manifest powers and IIRC the only reason they channel through the Justicar is so only one suffers the perils of the wars.
