Ultramarine vet
With 9th edition coming around the corner, are the supplements safe? I'm pretty certain the SM codex will need a new one....already. But I am just now getting into imperial Fists, and I love them! So do you guys think it's safe to pick up the Imperial Fists supplements? I would hate to buy it, only to replace it very shortly afterwards. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/364650-sm-supplements-in-9e/ Share on other sites
Brother Tyler
Lacking any specific hints from GW, it's difficult to say if/when they'll revise the supplements. Personally, I'm making do with the codices and supplements that I already have, but I'm not going to buy any other 8th edition codices/supplements - I can wait until GW publishes 9th edition versions. My guess (preference) is that all codices should be updated for 9th edition before GW moves on to supplements. I don't have any evidence to support that guess - it's just what my personal "common sense" tells me is appropriate. Medjugorje
as far as I know GW confirmed already that the current SM codex + supplements were created for 9th edition. The Shadow Spear Box units had rules withoug being in the SM codex so I think the next SM codex will be released in end of 2021 (maybe with new supplements / maybe the supplements will stay like they are) but for the next year i would not expect too much changes. I mean the last codex was the space marine codex. They simply can´t make a new one without a few others between them. BitsHammer
Supplements are safe. Biggest advantage of supplements is they need less updating meaning they can stay legal for longer between revamps. Lord_Caerolion
Given the codexes themselves are able to be ported across to 9th with little to no issue, I can't see why the same wouldn't hold true of the supplements. Worst case scenario, we get an errata on the release of 9th to clarify any issues, etc. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/364650-sm-supplements-in-9e/#findComment-5546281 Share on other sites
BluejayJunior
I think the supplements are fine. Even if Space Marines get a new codex soon (which I don't think will happen, but some think will), I would guess that it would be made to still work with the supplements, rather than making new supplements for the new codex. Subtleknife
I think the big issues, if there are any, can be dealt with via errata so you should be safe But until GW says something concrete no one knows. Jorin Helm-splitter
I think that they will do a version 2 book similar to what they did with chaos, where you won't need it but it will be available with the new units, faqs, and the download code for the app. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/364650-sm-supplements-in-9e/#findComment-5546567 Share on other sites
