Like it says on the tin! My old (and to be honest quite weedy) lamp is ready to give up the ghost, so looking for suggestions for a good hobby desk lamp with the typical good daylight settings and high lumens.

I'd prefer one which can stand freely over one you need to attach (vice) to a desk, but open to all options provided it's quite nice at manouvering and has a good length.

Thanks very much!

I picked up one of these about 18 months ago (daylight company lumi). Really happy with it, the strip light is outstanding and properly colour balanced. It is clamped to the side of my office-style desk, but it's got a really long arm so I just lift it up vertically (or swivel) out of the way when I'm not using it - solid metal construction and good springs and range of motion so it goes exactly where you put it and stays there. The lack of a chunky base did free up some desk space too.

I did used to use an anglepoise-style lamp with stand before with a high lumens colour-balanced daylight bulb, but this blows it out of the water at avoiding shadows - the wide field makes a big difference, and I can use it as the sole light at night in a dark room on the higher of the two light settings, it's that bright.

Wish I'd bought it sooner, and would happily do so again; it's not cheap, but it's definitely stopping me getting my old eyestrain!

I have a very similar "work lamp" to the one Arkhanist posted and after having tried numerous other lamps this is the one I've found works best.

The difference between other varieties of lamp and this kind is incredible and I have to say it was probably my best value hobby purchase on the impact it has had on my painting.
